Barely any improvement to controls or UI - Major new bugs

The controls and UI are just as convoluted as the original 1988 release, which defeats the main purpose of remastering a 32 year old game. In fact, the controls are even worse because they removed key macros, which makes basic actions like healing take several times longer. I also tried playing with a controller to see if it would be any easier, but found it to be virtually unplayable. There are countless new bugs as well, like not being able to build a custom party if you play any other language besides English. Developers say they are working on it, but it's a major oversight to let slip past testing in the first place. The only positive comment I can make is that the soundtrack is great, which is the only reason I gave this review two stars instead of one. Overall though it's a disaster, which surprises me because Krome did such an amazing job on the Bards Tale Trilogy. Hopefully patches will eventually improve it, but in the meantime I recommend saving your money.

Shame

Bugs....bugs everywhere...and I am not talking about some enemy type in game, this is one of the buggiest games I ever played. I even have a gamebreaking bug, 2 of my characters NEVER inflict ANY damage with ANY weapon on ANY enemy...this is a problem in a hard game like this, believe me. I tried Pistols (they have clip pistol skill), I tried melee (they have no skill, but even in the original they still would hit and do damage occasionally) and I even tried rifles (they have the skill), nothing. I probably did 200 attacks with each of those characters at least during the time I played, never ever did they hit (they either miss or inflict no damage, always). Get the original, considering they didn't even update the UI and it still is just as clunky as in the old one, there is really no reason to play this with all the new bugs....yeah yeah, the graphics are a bit better (don't expect wonders here though !!!! or you will be disappointed). Due to the bug I get I can only give this 1 star, it is basically unplayable for me.

Really was looking forward to this....

I am grateful that the original game is still available and even though people may complain about the "outdated" graphics the original is still a blast to play once you get the hang of navigation and combat. I do not pre-order pretty much anything nowadays as I figure that I can wait because of bugs and things that need fixing but I decided to give this a chance because I am glad they were doing an update to the game..... should have waited for it. It is very difficult to change weapons outside or in combat (trick to save ammo is when the enemies are 14 feet or less to equip melee weapons to deal damage, they are good damage weapons.) so it makes it difficult to fight. Also the lack of a manual/guide makes it impossible to know what to say when the text prompt pops up when speaking to someone, I don't know what the Hell to ask them ?_? so that is frustrating. The graphics are nice but the camera feels a little too close and what exactly is ESBT controls anyway. I really wanted to like this game and it is painful for me to write this, but please fix the UI, controls, camera, have explanations as well as a list of phrases for dialogue and anything else that would help especially if a manual or anything is not going to be included. Also please create a tutorial of sorts to get the player familiar with what they will be doing like in ATOM RPG (combat, dialogue, controls etc. so they can be prepared for the Wasteland I know I sound drunk as I am writing this and while this is true, I write this coming from a passionate fan of old school games that many have stood the test of time and deserve to have wonderful remasters just like Wasteland does. I am not going to refund the game as I am hoping it will be patched because I believe old school games deserve a second chance to be enjoyed and should always have the original game available even for just for historical purposes. I am looking forward to what they can do to fix the game. Thank you. Cheers ^_^

This would be an insult at free.

Bless Gog for starting normal refunds as this game keeps all the flaws of a late 80s DOS and C64 game while barely doing more than giving it a nice audio score. And removing the macros which are all but needed to make the game moderately playable as a Reagan era game without actually fixing it thus requiring a minimum of 4 key presses to do anything. The graphics revamp is mediocre at best, merely highlighting how little they actually did in this remaster. Do you like step movement moving you a single square with no animation? How about tiny green text without any actual visible notification on how to see other pages of character information? Mouse use being made worse than going pure keyboard? Not being able to immediately swap to other party member pages? No right click or mouse over mechanics for things like what anything does, requiring going to a separate info page where half or more of the game story is put as journal entries. The previous release of Wasteland which I got for free as a Wasteland 2 backer did a better job bringing the dated elements into a post 1990 world. Avoid.

This is not really remastered yet

I was so excited, when I preordered the game, now it is a bit of a disappointment. The character creation is clunky, There are no improvements for a smooth creation process. Pages seems ok, but why not free change of pages, and change of any property including re-roll without restarting creation process? The inventory handling is horrible. Pages can't be switched (why pages anyway?) Pages loose focus when actions are done (selling or trading on page 3 results in being on page one afterwards). How to reorder the inventory or skills? Changing equipment did not change at all. Character presentation is just like the original from the 80s. No Icons or any fresh ideas how to present character stats and properties in a modern UX/UI The controller support would be nice, if neatly done. Somehow I managed to loose focus from combat controls. I was not able to reset them to the combat optons, So I had to restart the game. The controller does not really have any advantage when it comes to combat, inventory or skill/Item usage. Where is a manual. I still own my Commodore 64 Original, but a PDF would be nice. Graphics are ok but a bit blurry. The spoken paragraphs collected in a log are nice. That's my experience so far, without really getting into the game.
