Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat

A good old game really. Def one of my old favourites, sounds and animations work fine. Only thing is there is no keyboard shortcuts or hotkeys. Cant do anything with the keyboard on there. Breaks the game as you need to manually click move and attack, so when its a big intense battle you lose often. It would be 4-5 stars if it worked and was fun to play, but at the moment its broken and a regret to me. Already tried 3 times through support for a fix and got told to spin on it basically thats the game as they present it.

The title says it all, your better off buying a PS1 and a physical copy of this game. I was able to make it to mission 3 with just the mouse, but you cannot properly control your army with just LMB and RMB, the controls on this game need some serious work. If they ever add keyboard support and hotkeys into the game, i will change my review to accurately reflect that changed quality.

Is the bug that stops the game from running corrected? This game was a fantastic experience years ago when I got into Warhammer world. As was the Dark Omen, a great game set into the same world. But I'm not buying SOTHR unless it is confirmed that it can be smoothly run till the end.

Shame on you gog, for continuing to sell a mostly unplayable game. I used to respect you guys, but a lot has changed in the past few years.

SHR was released in 1995 - the same year as Warcraft 2 and Command & Conquer. Compared to those, it's pretty bad. An interface with vague buttons, ugly graphics that remind me of football manager games of the era and gameplay that consists of rushed clicks instead of careful strategising. I do like everything around it though. The cute menu's. The little story. It's somewhat amusing. I'm also impressed this actually runs, although for some reason there are really long loading times. If it takes 5+ seconds now to load screens, how long did it take back in the days of 386? In any case, don't bother, this doesn't hold up.
