Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior

I remember playing this endlessly on ps2 and just picked this up on GOG. Although the game clearly has many flaws and is a little rough around the edges I think its fantastic. Even with my probably very thick nostalgia goggles on there is a lot to love about it. For me it perfectly capture what I love about 40k. The little grimy details that make the 40k universe unique. The eerie atmostphere wandering around an imperial prison or the panic of the tau ship invasion. When you finally meet a space marine its a mini boss in itself. Wielding a bolter has never come close to as satisfying in any other game. The attention to detail lorewise is brilliant. As I mentioned previously it does have a healthy dose of jank but what great game doesn't. There is a lot of creativity to admire about the game, I think you can tell it was made with a lot of love for the source material. After over 17 years ago since I first played it I'm happy to say I'm having a new experience with the game and a lot of fun. Also the GOG version of the game comes with a launcher that you sort out any game settings that were not in the original pc release which is great. Make sure you put auto aim on from the launcher as thats the best way to play. (It gives the game a Goldeneye sort of run and gun feel)

First of all: don´t play this with a refresh rate of over 75Hz, or it will crash 30 seconds into the second level. Then, better be used to play with a high dps mouse, for any slight mouse movement will make the crosshair go jump around the screen. IF you like linear shooters, stupid enemies that all look the same (hey, some have blueish, some red-ish camo!), AND are okay with weapons that make no sense (Tau and guard rifles don´t deal much damage, but the pistol does one shot kills..).. then maybe give it a try. The graphics didn´t age well, and the sound is lacklustre. Maybe it´s because it´s a console port, but it´s all just.. meh. ONLY good thing about this game is the quite different way the imperium is portrayed: they´re an evil bunch and the TAU want to rescue their leader.

Fire Warrior is very mediocre as a shooter the aiming is awful thanks to the ridiculous spread that most guns have, is hard to know when you are hitting the enemies and enemy variety is lacking. Also the audio mixing is just bad. But is unique experience for people who like the setting; you play as tau which is uncommon, the locations you fight in are interesting, the story is not bad and the gameplay can be fun despite how janky it is. I personally had fun during the 5 hours that it took me to beat it, if you like 40k especially the Tau I would recommend it if you can stomach the jank.

Damn, I remembered this game from my childhood, well, should have stayed there... To play it today, this is realy bad actually, kinda boring, no need to aim, the weapons ? Meh... BUT, this is nice 'cause it is (for what i know) the only fps that you play as Tau, and that's nice. But that's all...
