Ragnarok. Legend has it that when the coldest winter descends, the Jotan will return to take their vengeance against the Gods of Asgard. The world is on the road to perdition and the fate of Midgard hangs in the balance. But when the Fire and Frost Giants begin to merge their armies, they encounter the clan of the Ulfung – the Wolves of Midgard. Bloody, but unbowed following the destruction of their village, this notorious band of ostracized Viking warriors are determined to seize their destiny and save the world. As clan chief, you must save Midgard from complete annihilation, and spearhead the charge to vanquish the fiendish creatures of the Fimbulwinter.

Vikings: Wolves of Midgard is a recommendable dungeon crawler, with fun and interesting enemies, a wide but not overwhelming array of player abilities, and an engaging combat system that demands that players remain on their toes and think carefully about what abilities to use and when. However, a few technical issues, and a repetitive structure prevent the game from being something for players to return to after they’ve completed the main story.

Is Vikings: Wolves of Midgard the kind of game that you can have a run at and finish in around the 12-15 hours it’ll take to finish its campaign? Absolutely. Just don’t expect it to be able to keep a grip on you once the end credits have thawed out.

Awful mechanics

Rolling around none stop to each campfire with the occasional enemy to kill does not a good game make. Why ruin what could have been a nice ARPG with such tedious mechanics. I have no urge to continue.

Vikings - Wolves of Midgard

This is the game I show to all my friends. No crappy online requirements or DRM. I really appreciate LAN play on any ARPG. Additionally I bought it on GOG and Steam to better support the developers. I just wish more people could play together. And yes, we still host LAN parties at our house! Shout out to my lovely wife for finding this gem!

Das bessere Diablo III

Um es kurz zu machen: Das Spiel ist ein ARPG in Reinkultur und bietet die Tiefe und (zumindest in weiten Teilen) Mechanik von Diablo II mit ansehnlicher Grafik und genug Geschichte, um sich auch 2025 zu behaupten. Wer bei Diablo III et. al. von Registrierungszwang, In-Game-Geldmacherei sowie einer charakterlosen Geschichte enttäuscht war, dürfte bei Vikings - Wolves of Midgard angetan sein und im Diablo-Gefühl schwelgen. Die Adaption der nordischen Götter- und Sagenwelt fühlt sich ebenfalls stimmig an, so dass ein atmosphärisch dichtes Setting Vikings zu einer kleinen Perle des Genres macht.
