Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption

I would start by saying I never write reviews, but after playing through this game and being a fan of VtM games, I feel like this is an important and memorable story in gaming that I should encourage others to experience, with full warning of the just... bad gameplay. In a nutshell, I would say Redemption is a game that has aged pretty poorly in terms of gameplay and QoL, but nonetheless I felt compelled to complete out of interest in the story of the main characters. Avoiding spoilers, the story of Redemption starts with you playing the honourable, pious knight Christof. Wounded from a battle with barbarians serving vampire masters, he is nursed to health by the beautiful nun, Anezkha. The two quickly confess their love for eachother, but lament that their holy vows mean they cannot be together. Christof is then embraced by a vampire, and what follows is probably the most interesting, compelling, well-written video game stories of love and, as the title suggests, redemption, that I have ever played. Its themes, lines and overall mood will haunt you long after completing the game, as veteran players seem to confirm when discussing it two decades later. This game sort of fits in the RPG genre, though there's scarcely dialogue choices, choices of quests, varied builds etc. that you may expect from those games. Instead, you have a linear progression of quests with characters and companions slowly introduced to you. There's some dice rolling in the combat, though you only see if attacks/disciplines succeed or fail, not the percentage chances. This can make combat a very repetitive click 'em up, walking through dungeons of repetitive enemies with annoying abilities to deal with. If that sounds insurmountably tedious to you, you should just look up the cutscenes and avoid playing this. If you can put up with poor gameplay and are interested in fairly unique medieval-thru-Y2K gothic horror-romance story, it is worth the couple bucks this game can be bought for.

This game is a must buy for RPG FANS, hope there will be remake maybe as good as Diablo 2 Ressurected. Ater redemption it is worth to play Vampire masquerade Bloodlines with unofficial patch witch repair and add many important quests.

I own the CD version of the game but getting it up and running was always a hassle. GOG's version opens and although the format is still the old box setup, its wonderful and plays without issues. THe game and nostalgia makes me forget that box vision and take in the world gleefully. Now only if someone would take this concept and evolve it into a more modern version with the 13 clans to play and a chronicled story

Best vampire game ever IMO, good game for old timers. Released 25 years ago and still gets me hooked to it!
