Ultima™ 9: Ascension

I loved this game when it was first released, it was slightly buggy, and had issues that most new games of the time had, but the story and graphics were just gripping. Tried to get my CDROM version working recently, but poor graphics compatibility made it impossible to play, so hoping the GOG release will fix these issues.

Im not even sure why it was released. It was extremely buggy and incomplete which is very noticeable as you progress through the game. Forget this was part of the Ultima franchise

Ultima 8 was my first Ultima game and I really enjoyed it. By the time I played it the patches had resolved the dodgy jumping and it was quite a fun action/adventure/RPG. Since then I've played most of the Ultima games and can see why number 8 is so hated. I do still maintain that it can be played and enjoyed immensely. Ultima 9 is different. It both doesn't tie in well with the other Ultimas and the gameplay is just plain bad. The only thing it had going for it on release was the impressive 3D world... but now it's just a dated, sad and barely playable game. Avoid.

Unglaublich gute Graphik für ein Spiel seiner Zeit. Es gibt eine offene Spielwelt, in der man alles aufnehmen kann, sowie ein Physiksystem (man kann z.B. mit Feuerzaubern Dinge anzünden und mit Wasserzaubern wieder löschen). Es macht wirklich Spaß, neue Zauber zu lernen und seinen Charakter zu entwickeln. Überall in der Spieltwelt verstecken sich Upgrades, Geheimnisse und bessere Gegenstände. Schwachpunkt ist die Story, die wohl nicht an die vorherigen Ultima-Teile herankommt.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I thought this was a truly great RPG. It was immersive, the story was interesting and it was a fitting end to one of the greatest video game series ever. I've played it through at least 5 times since buying the collectors edition on release day. And now that I can get it here I will be playing it through again.
