Interesting, not mind blowing

Is a good old school action rpg. You won't have a party nor companions of any type. The combat is good for an RPG, just don't expect a souls game. Foes don't respawn nor match your level. You better where you are getting yourself into. The voice acting is kind of bad. The story telling in general never hooked me. The main quest meh, the meat of the game, IMO, is exploring and level up your character. It has a interesting take on gear. You can upgrade armor / weapon by dragging exactly the same kind on top it. E.G. You can rise the stats the "Silver riveted boots" you have in your inventory or that you are wearing by dragging on top of them another pair of "Silver riveted boots". It won't work with "Silvered boots" nor "Riveted boots", need to be exactly the same. This is not explained anywhere in the game. The magic system is not mind blowing but offers you a nice set of tools for combat. Mages are quite viable. I have to admit I made my mage wear an armor instead a tunic and made it learn to swing swords and maces. But I didn't really needed to, I just felt I was more fun that way. Alchemy is also important. Used correctly is another way permanently rise your character stats. My only technical problem is it 100% skipped the last 2 CGI. Not a big deal for me, as I said the story telling is not that good anyway. Sadly there almost no mods for this game. It never really had a modding community behind it.

very tedious

Just finished the game ans here are my notes. Very tiring to play, if I hadn't forced myself to finish it I would have simply quit. No engrossing story to speak of, just a perfunktory storyline that in no way pulls you in. Only but it if it's on sale and you are really desperate for something to burn time on.

Rough, but fun journey

The game has a lot of good things: - great design, nice looking armor, enemies, environment (it rare to see such a variety in video game - japanese forest, volcanos, deserts, strange ruins etc) - nice although a little too random magic system, - okish character devepment, - good music, If you can survive super bad voiceactors, and will not pay too much attention to main story and very bad sidequests (or just like exploring around) - you will have some fun here.

Pros Outweigh the Cons

Overall this is a decent game that has an engaging story, a diverse mount of side quests and a liberal amount of exploration that can be done. Don't let the release date fool you either regarding graphics, it has excellent graphics despite what some users will review and will give unprepared computers a run for their money if the settings are max out. Overall there was some bugs that needed to be worked out that didn't and the controls where a little strange, but if you can get past that than you have a decent game for 10bucks that enabled decent character development in an engaging story.

Under appreciated on release

From what I understand, this game was brutally panned for being a buggy mess when it was released, but this patched version is actually pretty smooth (I had one crash to desktop in about 40 hours of play, a couple of messed up lines of dialog and one or two quests promise gold as a reward, but still don't give you any) and that game is really a very fun RPG in a similar vain to The Elder Scrolls. First, let me say, it's not as good as Oblivion, but Oblivion is a high bar to reach. It's probably about as good (but a little smaller overall) than Gothic III, but without Gothic III's ridiculous combat system (no danger of your high level character still getting mauled by wolves at the end of the game). The graphics are overall pretty good and varied with some nice effects. Character models and animation are not quite as good but passable. And forsooth, the dialog is mostly awful, but once you stop taking it too seriously, it's okay. Despite being frustrating at first, I actually found the horse ridding part of the game to be immensity satisfying once you've worked out how to control the horse and what it can do. Charging a group of orcs, trampling them under hoof while whacking another with your sword from the saddle is a joy. Then circle around out-of-range and charge them again. Once you've leveled up your horse ridding skills, your horse can become your best weapon for some encounters. Inventory management can also be a bit of a pain. You can sort your loot in your own inventory, but you can't do the same with your horse's. This can make figuring out which pieces of loot you can combine a bit of a chore especially with things like gloves and boots which all look almost the same. Overall, I think this game is a worthwhile distraction at the price and I will certainly keep an eye out for Two Worlds 2.
