What a mess
Game runs awful; even on high end hardware (i7 13700KF/32GB 6200Mhz DDR5/RX 7900XT) and to make matters worse it has some game breaking bugts like being unable to move at crucial parts of a level. Very dissapointed and will avoid this company at all costs in future. Replay FEAR instead; at least it runs well and has no game breaking bus.

Failure of a F.E.A.R. successor
I'm a big fan of F.E.A.R. and Extraction Point, one of the games that succeeds the most at making violence a work of art. F.E.A.R. has all time great AI, physics, particles, and sound design. My utter disappointment in Trepang2 was immediate, trying extrene and very hard difficulty modes, when I saw that the AI is brain-dead like in most modern games and there are fewer destructible physics objects. The enemy AI doesn't hear your gunshots, so you can stand in one safe place and pick them off while they fumble around, sometimes walking towards you backwards oblivions. And fewer physics objects than a 2005 game? It's also funny how this has the same lighting deficiency as F.E.A.R except worse in one way: the issue in both games is no global illumination and no baked ambient lighting, so you'll have a lit room with pitch black spots which just makes no sense. F.E.A.R. needed baked ambient lighting, Trepang2 needs that on lower graphics settings but higher graphics settings needs global illumination. They're using UE4 so they had plenty of options including the optimized NVIDIA RTXGI and RTXDI (the latter improves performance). What's worse about the lighting is not ALL light sources are dynamic shadow casters unlike F.E.A.R., but most are. And what's up with the name? Sea cucumber squared? Did you mean Trepann?

GREAT FUN!
Trepang2... Uh, Half-life 2, anybody? Lol. Someone mentioned this began as a mod for another game; Let me guess... I have never played 'F.E.A.R.' either, but there is also NOTHING SCARY about Trepang AT ALL, so I am guessing maybe so many are too young to remember Half-life 2: Other than being better and more interesting, with a different story and more interesting gameplay (weapon upgrades, etc), Trepang2 IS Half-life 2! Well, I HATED Half-life 2; I actually preferred mods (Black Mesa) based on and the Original Half-life. I however had a GREAT time playing Trepang 2. So, for anyone else who loved or hated the game and the era of Half-life 2, You will also probably LOVE Trepang2, as it is the same game but BETTER; likely shorter, I am only just beginning, but enough to Know what I mean for a review here: As I appreciate Black Mesa as an upgrade to the original Half-Life, I can now enjoy Trepang2 as a total replacement of the original and tedious Half-Life 2 I did not like at all in it's original story and form: The boat chases, helicopters and story-line I found tedious and depressing... A game should never be too depressing, and mostly fun. I admit I do not play the horror genre anyway; so beware if You do, that Trepang2 is mostly fps Action and FUN... It runs fine on my old i5 win10 with older 7** Nvidia graphics; I cranked up the AA and set everything else on medium/low and am having a GREAT old time -- HALLELUJAH! THANKS AGAIN, GOG!
