This game was clearly made with passion. You can see the proof of this almost everywhere. The 2D environments are colorful and enchanting, gameplay feels smooth and polished, not to mention the absolutely huge and very diversified world in which you can spend many hours just exploring. Treasure Adventure Game casts you in the role of a young boy who lands on an island that is a fragment of what was once a continent, destroyed in the war between a demon and a wizard. You accept quests, travel across the oceans, and generally have a bang-up time of being a little boy in a big world, out there looking for treasure and adventure. Your equipment consists of a hat, a parrot, and a boat that appears whenever you touch water. Combine those with the basic platforming abilities like jumping and crawling that you’re familiar with from every platforming game ever, and you’ve got the basics of a phenomenal romp across a huge world filled with treasure, maps, secrets, danger, and triumph.
The music changes with the environments and day-night cycles, enhancing the feel the game is evoking and making you feel immersed in the world as you travel through it. The game has a retro feel, yes, but you really have to see it for yourself to understand what Treasure Adventure Game brings to the table. Since it’s free, of course, there is simply no reason not to!
Treasure Adventure Game was created by Stephen Orlando. He spent over 2 years of his life developing it. When you see the scope and detail in this game, it’s hard to believe that it was created by just one guy. But it was! So if you like it, head over to his website and break that donate button!
Huge, open, and highly interactive world to explore and a very interesting story to experience.
Very diversified environments with changing weather and NPCs that are not static but living their lives.
Beautiful music, composed by Robert Ellis, that changes with the background and creates a very unique and enchanting mood.

Level design is extremely thoughfull! All these "fill the bottle" puzzles make me happy when solved successfully.
And there are many stumbling moments ― just be ready to give it more time than you give to other games.
I was surprised of cunning bosses. Most of their actions are predictable, however my brain was in fire, that's so exciting feeling!
Assuming that game uses most lines and elements to tell more about its world, some kid in the world learns this thing and feels enlightened. I imagine it.
I have passed 53% of the game and still have feeling that I have done only 30%, because there are too many optional secrets.
You still can accidentally fall through quicksand if you AFK, and start walking on the water like it's stone, and get stuck. That's just rare and, at the same time, embarrassing case. There's need to understand this bug ― the most effort in this game was put on everything except solid physics.
I have many tasks incomplete in this game (medicine, etc.) and it kinda holds. I love this indie game!
Marvelous adventure, easy but great mechanics. Puzzles are difficult but won't make you stuck forever if you keep your eyes open. This game keeps you wandering around until you find every treasure in the world. HOW CAN THIS BE FREE ?
One of the main things about adventure games some developers seem to forget is atmosphere. The feeling you are going to discover great and fun things within a game, but can't figure out what. This game provides such a feeling.
When you first start out, the game just throws you into it. Pretty basic beginning: Amnesia, check. Lost relative, check. A myriad of mythical items said to possess the power to grant someone godlike abilities, check. I've seen stuff like this before in a game, but that's not a bad thing.
See, the developer lays it all out for you when he says it's a throwback to when he was a child. It contains a lot of the old style of game play you can find in old school platformer/adventure games. It also lacks a tutorial. "Here, kid, here's a fucking map, go do something." Then you're on your own. It won't ease you into it.
As you roam the landscape after receiving your first map, you see lots of things that puzzle you. Weird glowing blobs suspended in the air. Little gray fans buzzing about in the air as well. Gives it a little mystery. At first I just assumed it was there as part of the environment, but it all comes to light later in the game.
That's what I enjoyed about this game. You're solely responsible for figuring it all out. The game isn't going to constantly remind you which button to press for whatever function. It won't give you an ass load of tips on how to beat the game. And it had some pretty old, yet hard, boss fight game play.
The landscape of the game is simple, but still nice to look at. The land was torn apart by a demon into a bunch of little islands. You see some comets dipping in and out of the sky (or at least what I assume are comets), you see oddly shaped lands in the background, and the level design is decent. Which brings me to the beginning of the bad.
The level design can be pretty fun, but can also be tedious. See, you can't access all the areas right away. You have to go out and collect gear that makes it all possible for you to go to all the areas. This means you end up going back to some dungeons several times, though it isn't often required. It's just for the booty.
That isn't the worst part of the level designs. It isn't so widespread that you will be seeing it everywhere, but it is still prevalent. I think that the developer could have used a little more time to try out his levels before slapping it with the "finished" label. The placement of platforms can often at times make it difficult to jump. Not difficult as in, multiple enemies and little surface area that makes it hard to avoid being hit which will result in your untimely death. But design flaw difficult. However, as I have mentioned before, it isn't everywhere. I was still able to make it past the stuff, even if it did take a few tries.
The music is pretty basic. It's not overwhelming, doesn't give you the sense you are on an epic adventure. However, it can be quite soothing. When you get to your first real dungeon, and first real boss fight, you'll probably see what I mean. I was chilling the whole way through that level.
One thing I like in this game is that the resources aren't easily acquired. You'll eventually be finding yourself budgeting yourself so that you can still afford a hat whilst still getting that gear piece need to progress through the game. Gives you a sense of the gravity of it all because that cash was well earned by kicking ass.
Overall, a pretty fun game. Nothing too fancy in the sound, or story/ writing department, but there is real value in the game play and atmosphere. Kind of feels like the kind game that could have flourished on the older consoles, spawning a long lived and fruitful series. I really had fun with this one.
My hopes weren't to high upon downloading this game; It was free, screenshots appeared to be more... beta-esque than a finished game. But it was only 120~MB, so I figured why not?
Immediately upon gaining control of the player character (post-intro) I became enthralled by the retrograde scenery, fitting music and smooth controls. I started playing this game at about 7PM EST yesterday and only just now pried myself away to take a break, so that's 12 hours of gaming and I'm only at 37% completion. This game has fun 2D exploration, challenging platforming and puzzles and boss fights that incorporate both platforming and puzzles. The story of the game thus far has been relatively engaging and lore is provided randomly throughout the game. There are minigames, side missions and treasures to keep you busy while you explore the areas you've been before. All in all, this game has so far exceeded expectations for a free indie game.
I do have a few reservations, which I will list here:
* I have personally run into a few CTDs, but that could just be on my end. Never twice in the same place.
* The Microsoft XBox 360 Controller Driver and a wired XBox 360 controller seem to be incompatible with the game. But then again, the XBox 360 controller tends to do that with a lot of Joypad compatible games. (only the left analogue stick worked for me)
* Jumping (especially with spring mushrooms) feels a bit "strict", as in your jumps have to be very precise, like standing on the very edge of a ledge to hook the other platform, lest you fall on some spikes. Mushrooms and tend to nitpick your jumps and send you either not far or not high enough. This is especially prevalent with sequenced jumps.
* Gold is a bit too scarce and requires a lot of grinding later on.
As a reference point, my laptop has a Pentium 1.9GHz Dual Core, 2GB RAM and Intel chipset graphics (no VRAM whatsoever) and the game runs at a solid 50-60fps under most conditions, so this game runs well on lower-end laptops.
