You are born falling from orbit, a new mind in a body once occupied by the Changing God, a being who has cheated death for millennia. If you survive, your journey through the Ninth World will only get stranger… and deadlier.
With a host of strange companions – whose motives and goals may help or harm you – you must escape an ancient, unstoppable creature called the Sorrow and answer the question that defines your existence: What does one life matter?
Torment: Tides of Numenera is the thematic successor to Planescape: Torment, one of the most critically acclaimed and beloved role-playing games of all time. Torment: Tides of Numenera is a single-player, isometric, narrative-driven role-playing game set in Monte Cook’s Numenera universe, and brought to you by the creative team behind Planescape: Torment and the award-winning Wasteland 2.
A Deep, Thematically Satisfying Story. The philosophical underpinnings of Torment drive the game, both mechanically and narratively. Your words, choices, and actions are your primary weapons.
A World Unlike Any Other. Journey across the Ninth World, a fantastic, original setting, with awe-inspiring visuals, offbeat and unpredictable items to use in and out of battle, and stunning feats of magic. Powered by technology used in the award-winning Pillars of Eternity by Obsidian Entertainment, the Numenera setting by Monte Cook provides endless wonders and impossibly imaginative locations for you to explore.
A Rich, Personal Narrative. Thoughtful and character-driven, the story is epic in feel but deeply personal in substance, with nontraditional characters and companions whose motivations and desires shape their actions throughout the game.
Reactivity, Replayability, and the Tides. Your choices matter, and morality in the Ninth World is not a simple matter of “right” and “wrong”. You will decide the fates of those around you, and characters will react to your decisions and reputation. The result is a deeply replayable experience that arises naturally from your actions throughout the game.
A New Take on Combat. With the Crisis system, combat is more than just bashing your enemies. Plan your way through hand-crafted set-pieces which combine battles with environmental puzzles, social interaction, stealth, and more.

This is ofc my opinion, but everything from the grafics to the dialoge is just worthless.
And i think its a great shame that they promoted the game like it was planscape torment 2, ITS NOT!
I will not spoil anything for you but a quest named the endless gate is IMO the worst quest ever made and it shows all the loopholes and flaws with the game.
The lore? Well you will learn a lot about stuff you have no use for ever! and has no impact on you at all.
Just a shame!
I was really disappointed by the game. They went the most easiest way and used pathfinder engine (which I hate), tried to replicate PST in dialogues (unsuccessful). It's hard to understand for who this game is meant to be.
I didn't know this type of games even existed before playing Torment: Tides of numenera. I've never played Planescape, nor any of those classic CRPGs. My RPG experience started with Fallout and Fallout 2.
Do you remember that small window in the bottom left corner in Fallout1 and F2, giving brief descriptions of what the character sees, feels and thinks about?
Now, in Torment:ToN everything is like this. Every small nook&cranny gets described by text. Every puzzle gets solved by text, every oddity, every quest, even most of the "fights" are solved by text. Even vendor-trash items are described with their own backstory and feel like interesting items, if you are willing to read.
This game is entertaining for people who love to read, who like to have their imagination running wild. People who love action, shiny effects, would not love this game so much, I would say. If you are one of those, steer clear, this is 2/10 title for you, no need to waste your money here.
For the rest of us - this game throws you into a strange and alien world, full of secrets, strange strange locations, weird people, or not people at all, extremely interesting sidequests, interesting and well-written storyline and many more. Your sidekicks are interesting people, but I feel they could've benefited from a deeper story, each one of those, they are only interesting about half of the entire game. What keeps you occupied are the locations and people in there, the living world, somehow feeling alive and consistent, history-wise, the desire to know more about this universe of wonder. Each location, every single screen is a story to unravel.
I wonder, if my choices were good enough?
I guess it doesn't matter, they were mine in the end.
For me, this was a 5/5 game, really worth the effort and extremely pleasant experience, 45€ well spent.
The game could have been nice, but:
- The game is much too short. 30h when you did every side quest and read every dialogue is not reasonable for an RPG game.
- The maps are cramped. The maps should have been twice.
- The turn-based crisis events were no fun at all. When there are 10 enemies then it takes ages until you can click again.
- There are major bugs in the crisis system. Often the game becomes hard locked, when your move is illegal for no obvious reason. One challenge I had to restart three times.
- The little voice acting there was was bad. Everyone but Erritis.
- The game has no soul. I won't remember the any of the companions, or the setting.
- There is no final boss fight. The game lacks a final chapter.
- Calling it a spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment is simply false advertisement.
Have played this game for around twenty hours now and there is still so much content left to do, so I am very pleased with my investment. So far so good. The writing is smart as one would demand from a Planescape game, and it is also a definitive upgrade to the original game in terms of graphics, game-play etc and so on.
The pacing of the game can be slow at times, so if you are a modern gamer who is not used to reading lots of text you need to give it some time to get used to it. Trust me it is worth it. Personally I enjoy this style of game as you have to put thought into which options you choose rather than spamming option 1 to be "good" or dialogue option 2 to be "evil" like some other RPGs are guilty of.
So far have not encountered any useless grinding or fetch quests, and the characters have "personality". Also no politics or anything that would break world immersion either.
To say that I am grateful for inXile for producing this game is probably an understatement, because after playing the disappointing monstrosity of Siege of Dragonspear, my faith has been restored that a developer can take a classic RPG title like Planescape torment, and produce a quality modern successor to it, while still being faithful to the elements that made the original game so good.
Its probably too early for me to say whether its as good as PST as I have not reached the ending yet, but I am happy with what I have seen so far.
Definitely worth buying the game as there is a lot of quality content here, and the developers are worth supporting as I am eager to see more content from inXile.
