GREAT EXPERIENCE AFTER YEARS!

I played this marvelous title in arround 2002, and now 20 years later I couldn't believe how much of gameplay I forgot... I vividly remembered mysterious storyline, sneaky character of gameplay, 1st encounter with zombie at mines and the haunted cathedral, so now I can definitely advise you to play this title! This is highly immersive game that you just want to play - to push history forward, to check out another place for loot, to sneak behind and knock out a kitchen help, to make a tasks in the way you want (I hallenged myself to get rid off all of the enemies one way or another ;p). So don't pay attention on old pixeled graphics - you'll stop paying attention to this quite quickly, mainly thanks to a story, but also thanks to the physics and ridles. And then go to play part 2, and part 3 - you'll love this!

Awesome game in 2023 and beyond

Well I was worried this game would not hold up but it still does. If you like stealth games like Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell, Deceive Inc, etc then pick this gem up. It's awesome and you will be sneaking around crypts, castles, temples, and other cool levels. The levels are big and you can run around quite a bit sneaking around and listening to conversation. Overall I recommend it and this came before Splinter Cell and is one of the father's of stealth games. Long live Looking Glass Studios. I give this game a 5 out of 5 stars.

Great game!

This is the granddaddy of stealth game - and still one of the best. Hide in the shadows and be invisible, use different arrows for tactical advantages, observe your foes and learn their routes, become a master thief. Plus, great soundtrack, nice dark, gothic setting, and the game is always fair - if you die it was your fault. Only the graphics were outdated even when this game came out. Still, a great classic game. Play at night with dimmed light and enjoy the experience...

This is not your average stealth game.

Thief the Dark project was a game I decided to buy based solely off the box art at my local PC shop back in the day. Since I wasn't into buying gaming magazine when it came to the latest games, I had no idea what I was in for. To me it looked like Quake with swords, and wow was I so wrong. This game is first and foremost a stealth based game so if you want a FPS experience maybe check out something else. For tools you have at your disposal a sword, blackjack, bow and a few other interesting tools that will help you escape or fight enemies. The levels you play through are usually quite large in size and will require memorizing the layout as there is no overlay map that shows you where you are. Instead you have to rely on "sketches" of the map which is fairly realistic and this can make the game a bit more challenging since there are no waypoints showing you where to go. In fact this game is very old school in the sense that it doesn't hold your hand at all like modern games. It tough, but rewarding when you actually accomplish the missions at higher difficulty. If you like adventure games full of mystery and magic you will appreciate this game. It has a intriguing storyline and a memorable protagonist. If you are young and only know about the recently released and poorly made Thief remake, I'd give this a try as this is the real deal. This is definitely not your average game and it earned it's cult-status for the amount of detail that looking glass poured into it. Highly recommended! 4/5 Stars from me.

A true classic arrives on GOG

You are Garrett, master thief of reknown and a pawn of destiny. All he wants is to be left alone and to get on with his life but life doesn't deal him such cards when his skills are so highly prized. With missions ranging from stealing enough swag to pay the rent to robbing tombs for long lost artifacts, Thief Gold will keep you amused for a long time. With varying levels of difficulty and a fairly open-ended approach to completing these tasks, you will have to use all your guile and cunning to complete each level. Playing on 'easy' may allow you to kill the occasional guard and not look so hard for enough loot to finish the level but 'expert' provides the real challenge of going through without killing anyone and finding plenty of cunningly hidden items. The game has an engaging story and a good learning curve meaning you get hooked early and find yourself playing late into the night. What's that? Completed the game? Then look around the internet for the fan-made missions on sites such as "The Keep of Metal and Gold" that will keep you interest going for a long time afterward. Maybe you'll even make your own level with DromEd! By the time you're done with all that, GOG should have Thief 2 which takes the game up a level and has even more playability. Add this game to your cart now! You won't regret it!
