Masterpiece of the stealth genre

Thief may not have good graphics, but it has awesome sound effects. This was the first, and almost the only game that makes use of positional sound as a gameplay mechanic. I mean, when playing with headphones, you can close your eyes and sense the guard's positions by hearing only. Multiply that by great voice acting. Play on hard (non-lethal) mode to get the most out of Thief.

Not as great as Thief2 but...

... still the second best sneak game ever. The graphics are more ugly, the controls more difficult, there's more fighting, the missions less spacious, the plot a little less excellent... but nothing really detracts from the sheer fun experience of sneaking around and stealing EVERYTHING along to a good soundscape, voice-acting and lots of little details that give the setting depth. Now we only need Thief2!

Runs on low spec pc, but gets hard.

Runs on my absolute turd of a computer! I was surprised. Some levels are ridiculously complicated. After wandering around for hours in a couple of levels, I had to look up a walkthrough video to find my way to the end of the level. The enemies seem pretty stupid and spaced out until they are suddenly pretty difficult and plentiful. I didn't like how the game went supernatural with things after a while. I wasn't expecting zombies and dinosaurs(?).

Cool and original

I hadn't played this game before but liked the linearity and clarity of the game. The puzzles weren't ever too difficult or frustrating and the gameplay offered diverse approaches (either stealth or just kill 'em!).
