Theme Park

I purchased this game because I was a huge fan of its sequel, Theme Park World, back in the day. As Theme Park World isn't on GOG (yet?) I thought, ah what the heck, I'll try it out. But man oh man, was I wrong. I'm not sure if it's the Mac port, but the controls are downright awful. For a point and click the pointer and clicker don't work too well. The game doesn't run as smoothly as I feel it should, yes I know it's a 90s game but still. The sound is buggy and the text is hard to read a lot of the times. A lack of a manual or tutorial means you sort of just have to figure it out on your own. I get the feeling these 5 star reviews are nostalgia based. In my opinion, save your couple bucks, buy Zeus+Poseidon if you're looking for a good management game or Theme Hospital which I'm having way more fun with. And vote in the GOG wishlist to bring Theme Park World, the sequel, to this website! It's a much better and more fun version of this game! I'd pay a million bucks for that!

Theme Park was a game from my childhood! Building a theme park is every kid's dream. Trying to make a park with enough ride variation, keeping it clean (especially from the park guests who will upchuck after riding on your roller coaster), and maintained was a challenge that was so much fun! When you get bored with all of the standard rides the game provides you with, you just need to build a super-fast roller coaster and watch the riders fly off into space! This game is a must-have for fans of Roller Coaster Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon, or other simulation games. Much better and more intuitive than its cousin, Theme Hospital.

A few bugs still linger, patrons get stuck in weird places, no way to move them to a clear path. other than that I love this game. I enjoy SANDBOX Mode the most, the economic part of this game sucks, and is very buggy too.. I would like to give this game 5 stars but I have to stay w/ 3 at this time. GOG is awesome for finally getting it though.. ITS ABOUT TIME.

It makes me wonder why this game gets 5 stars. Blind nostalgia perhaps? Theme Park was a typical Molyneux game: Interesting for the first 2-3 hours, when you went on to discover all the features but quickly monotony sets in and you realize that there's a massive amount of flaws, bugs and missing things. Building a Theme Park is fun, the game gives you some small freedom in that you can design Roller Coasters and Go Karts but the fact that the map is always the same rectangle and nothing ever really changes, it's certainly a far cry from Rollercoaster Tycoon and it's massively diverse maps. The opponent parks are just random numbers that don't matter. The AI of the park visitors and your employees is downright horrible. Visitors get lost, cleaners ignore dirt, security guards wander off for no reason. It's not a lot of fun. Theme Park was pretty overrated back in the day and of course over 20 years later, it aged horribly. Also there are so many other games out there that are miles ahead of this one. So instead of wasting money for Theme Park get any one of the 3 Rollercoaster Tycoons or give Parkitect or Planet Coaster a look. Your time is better spent with those games.

Back in the day this game was pretty great, I remember playing this in class in the early and mid 90's in our computer labs. Part of the reason why it was so well received was due in part to two things, first, the rise of computer sim gaming on computers and the second being that the idea of a theme park simulator was still new and unique enough to grab attention. With that being said, this game does not age well at all. From the god awful control schemes to a complete lack of information provided to players, this game just isn't as good as what it used to be. If you are interested in them park simulators, you'd be better off checking out Roller Coaster Tycoon. Glad I only paid a buck for this game, because otherwise I would have felt ripped off.
