Theme Hospital

People need to understand; GoG literally stands by its name "Good Old Games" , and that some will have imperfections, and some on some systems, may not run at all - that's why customer service exists, and it's a waste of time for glitches and failures belonging to a review? I think it's more efficient to go there first. The game plays as I have always known it to. Amazing how, an old simple game brings laughter, frantic fun, and comprehensive. It's a bit like a city sim, only it's a Hospital. Last point ; I have tried apps I use PC and never a phone so I have used all 4 popular emulators. These apps are a money ink hole, whereas these games, even the new ones old by GoG, are aa great investment . I used to have steam long ago, and ran back to GoG , it's jut not the same. Also I own over 90 games, I get free game every so often which GoG graciously gives freebies to long time players (Thanks GoG!). Worst part of apps? try playing any of the elite or good pvp games, and you'll find yourself paying tons of money . Try this game , at least it allows you to appreciate the design efforts!

Well that's sort of what you do in Theme Hospital, except you'll find a sense of humor that Two Point Hospital (the spiritual successor) doesn't quite beat, a gameplay loop that'll make the manager inside of you satisfied, and a generally pretty good time. I will note, much like other reviews, the version bundled here is the original and has all the annoying glitches and bugs, so you can't remove destroyed rooms, epidemics will kill the gameplay flow, etc.... As to playing Theme Hospital, my suggestion is to use CorsixTH, a modern port of the game that adds some quality of life improvements to the game, fixes some bugs, and adds all the bells and whistles such as unlimited saves, custom campaigns (and an option to create them too), single scenario modes, etc.... So what are you waiting for? Pick it up when it goes on sale (which it does fairly often)

Oh my god, where do i start with this one? I already did video-review in Russian, so, just to sum-up personal thoughts: Its a great game. No seriously, not from subjective p.o.v. but from objective point of view its only one GOOD sim of hospitals. There are few more, but all of them are mostly crap. Your best bet if you looking something else is to look upon recent Hospital tycoon by codemasters. Wanna know what's inside of it? Imagine sims 1, which eaten some hospital sitcom, and they pooped out..yeh hospital tycoon. Ugly and dumb. Theme hospital is a paragon of hospital sims, with its unique 'Bullfrog's' style of graphics and interpretation, which got on hooked on steroids since it were featuring in theme park. Dozens and dozens of sprite animations (i bet they used renders and painted over them, but looks like clear pixel-art for me), memorable soundtrack (especially Atlantic and 60's-70's) and overall nice design and sound will leave you wanting for more over and over, and (like me) getting back to this masterpiece every year to revisit old memories of building hospital and fighting goofy infections (in world of theme hospital pregnancy is infection/injury..who would've known :D). By the way: if you want it shine on fullscreen on your HD monitor i suggest using CorsixTH reverse-engineered port to modern systems. Its currently almost finished (only thing currently not working is alien infection cure - so patients leave hospital right after they arrived).

This game is one of Bullfrog's finest, and one of the only management games I still play. It's one of those games that are easy to learn but hard to master, as you have to start controlling multiple issues at once (including emergencies, epidemics, rat infestations, and more) and learning to place your rooms in the right place to maximize efficiency is a MUST. I especially love how you can control which person needs to go where by picking them up and placing them exactly where you need them (a feature that is lacking in some games). My only gripe is that the rats that can get tough to deal with overtime, especially since the janitors can't automatically get rid of ratholes (you have to use a bench and place them over the hole to get rid of them, rinse and repeat for all the holes). Overall, this game has me in stitches with some of the disease names and the general humor of the game (especially as a doctor in RL) and I can't recommend this game enough to people who love micro-management and sim games in general. Just to make sure you guys know, make sure to check out the CorsixTH project for android devices (placed it on my Nexus 7 FHD and it works well). Gotta go, my hospital administrator is cheating... oh wait that's me.

I had a lot of nostalgia for Theme Hospital, having played it as a child on original release but, returning to it today showed up all the gameplay issues that I didn't remember. The install was fine and the game ran well technically. I didn't experience any issues or crashes during my whole play time (A full run through of the game on hard mode). The problems are all gameplay related. There are many misleading or vague statements in game and in the manual which leave you scratching your head as to what decisions to make. After playing for a while you realise that some guidance has lead you down the wrong path. There is way too much reliance of pop up messages which take you out of the game for 2-3 seconds at a time. This doesn't sound too bad until you get a busy hospital with messages popping up every 5-10 seconds. There are a few minor gameplay bugs which can nerf a level for you but the biggest one is the epidemic bug. Any hospital that has outdoor paths between buildings suffers from this and you have to completely adjust your hospital to avoid continuous, gamebreaking, fines. Th final major issue is certain items and rooms being completely detrimental to the running of your hospital even though you're constantly encouraged to build them. I won't explain which ones because that would be too much of a spoiler but I'm sure you'll work it out once you get to the busier levels and they cause major problems for you. You can get a lot of fun from Theme Hospital but playing it for more than a few hours will start to reveal all of the frustrations.
