The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

It's one of the best action RPGs there are (definitely better than shitty Bethesda games or Bioware crap) but still I wouldn't rate it higher than 7/10 and that's because it's boring at times, many quests are tedious (where you often have to pixel hunt) and after 1st chapter decline happens. 2nd chapter has worse quests (much backtracking is involved and many quests are plain boring like burning the corpses) and location themselves are bland and unimaginative. And 3rd chapter is a joke, very short with almost no quests (prologue is even worse but I can let it slide since it's a prologue, epilogue has at least an interesting fight in it). It looks especially bad when you take Roche's path (I think there are less quests and they are definitely more boring). There are still quite a few bugs in the game, often there are containers that you can't get into or places that you can't get out from and have to reload. Saving system is a joke (you can't name your saves as you like and thumbnails showing the location do not always work) and QTE and cutscenes are annoying. Also, new fighting system is a bit annoying even on Normal difficulty. There are the reasons why I gave it only 3 stars (would have given 3.5 if I could but 4 is just too much). Still, the fact that you can see some things from different perspectives and C&C having some meaning it's definitely not a total disaster but I've enjoyed Witcher 1 much better. At the current price (i.e. 5$ and below) it's a must buy though.

Couldn't give any real comment on storyline. I tried playing the game several times but the user interface (on PC) is just so bad it was like going back 15 years. Got so pissed off about it that to save myself stress it was easier to just delete the friggen thing. Witcher 1 was much better and even then it left a lot to be desired. I think this is more for 'twitch' console gamers but even then perhaps only if you were an epileptic.

The opening cutscene is pretty. That's the only good thing I've experienced about this game. The method they used to set the controls appears to be dropping scraps of paper onto the keyboard. You can't change the controls in-game. The dire settings widget, last seen in Windows 3.1, that you have to exit the game to use does not let you set all the controls, nor does it let you use arcane controls such as a mouse button that isn't LMB or RMB. The in-game display of which button you are supposed to use does not work, so you have to guess what GI_DOWN might mean, or perhaps you might only get a transparent square. The game sets a particular form of mouse smoothing by default that adds about a week's worth of lag to all your input. You need to track down and edit a config file to turn this off. The voice acting is awful. Just bored isolated people spouting nonsense at each other. How hard is it to pronounce the word "herbs" correctly? Too hard for these people, apparently. Don't even bother.
