Goodbye Elder Scrolls

I once thought that the Elder Scrolls was an RPG... now I am embarressed that I once thought so! That game truly lacks consequences like the Witcher does with every little thing tightly weaving together through out the game. Characters have more depth and I actually cared about a few of them. Unlike many other people I had absolutely no probably with it. I thought it was something fresh and way better than any standard hack and slash system. And the best part is... 10 BUCKS!!! BARGAIN! If you haven't already bought this purchase it right now and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of Geralt of Rivia!!!

Pretty nice, but...

Yeah, the Witcher. Allegedly great RPG with some implementations of Hack'n'Slash mechanics. Well, allegedly. The playthrough's lenght is mostly determined by pointless running. You get a mission at the southern gate of the city, then you have to go through the Traders District to the north, then by the lakeside, then to the swamps, then to the druids' camp foremost to the north only to talk to one or two NPC's and return (and hence repeat all of the way). Had it fast travel option included, it'd lose about half of it's gameplay time. Also a certain inconsequence is surprising. As one of the side missions you have creating the family. You, Triss or Shani and some orphan. In parallel, you have the achievement system to have sex with almost every female character ingame, be it peasant, elf warrior or Lady of the Lake. Not to mention that the "happy Geralt's family" also feels like forced, like creator passed a line like "boys, write something else, the game feels empty, it doesn't have to be great, it just has to be" to his writers. As expected, this story-line is cut in a middle, as your "boy" can teleport to any chosen time and place. So overall, while the game mechanics is nice, simple and refreshing, the story feels forced and is not really intact. The game is not great, not even good. It's average. And when it comes to Wither, average is an insult.

Awesome, when it works

The Witcher is a great game, it starts slow, but once it gets going it's a one amazing experience. Unfortunately, the Mac version of this game crashes constantly, you're better off downloading the PC version, you won't regret it.

Unexpectedly nice as a starter

My first play was in 2012 and I couldn't believe it was a 2007 game. The graphic view is beautiful. This game shows other game producers how to tell a good story when your resource is limited. The scene setting and character modelling are crude, and very few gears can be gathered in the game although it is expected to be a role-playing, where gearing-up is all what we like. But all these flaws are minimized by the story. Humanity, justice, morality are discussed in the game, and each player can get a different point of view of their own after a walkthrough.
