The Longest Journey

Just finished this one on Windows 10. Ran great. Would crash perhaps every four hours, but a quick reboot and all is well. A lot of walking back and forth to the same enviro's, but the story is deep enough that you really don't notice. The same as in life. You keep going to work. Keep going home. Keep going out to the same places of entertainment, until, you discover you're not a normal person. The crow I found a bit aggravating. I don't like a serious game to have characters that appeal to children. But that aside, this was one of the best adventure games I've played. Not sure what the rest of the series is like but I'm planning on continuing. It almost seems, by the way this one starts and ends, that it was meant not to have a sequel. You really can't go wrong by purchasing this, if you're a fan of the genre. Even if you're not, you'll be grabbed by the story and find yourself enjoying the trip. I loved every single moment of this game. April will forever be in my heart. I'm missing you so much already. Outstanding voice acting. Brilliant game. Wonderfull scenario. Unforgettable characters. A solid 5/5 stars.

It's a classical point and click adventure with a lot of story (and long dialoges), nice drawn backgrounds and good voiceover. in the beginning it seems like pretty normal, but later it becomes kind of beeing inside a complex fairytale. luckily april ryan, the protagonist, keeps a diary for not loosing the overview. Some riddles are not logical, so its normal beeing stucked sometimes.

With so many reviews gushing over this game, I thought I had lost my mind. So I kept playing, waiting for that moment where everything would make sense and I'd rue they day I stooped down to using a walk trough... But no. This is not the way to tell a story: long, I mean really long, excruciatingly tedious, expository dialogue about lists of irrelevant whatevers. Puzzles with little common sense that even inside the narrative are rarely solved smoothly: there's always something not working as it should and an additional random thing to click is required. No fist pumps, just exasperated "are we there yet?". April has no real connection to any of the characters, they are either forgettable or cringe-y, often rude and contemptuous. At least one can click and experiment at will and won't get trapped in places missing important objects or brake the puzzles or give wrong answers. I've played it for a bit in 2005, when I was about 10 years old. Ever since then, I felt a longing to come back to it. I'm honestly so glad I did. It's even greater than I remembered. Great story, great music, great design and atmosphere. 5/5
