But a plague of crows troubles the king, for the birds are acting with unusual aggressiveness, even attacking humans. You are given an idiot hero and a stupid companion and are then forced to take everyting that isn't nailed down and "apply" these items to others. Who would think to apply a hammer to a door to make a plank so that you can rescue your useless companion? And so it goes for every item - some blindingl obvious some of which would require a few quarts of alcohol to stumble upon.
Bah humbug!
Techinically, the game plays ok, but it has litte to no relation to the Dark Eye (DSA) role playing world and its atmosphere. Instead, it is like any other fairy tale style adventure. Quite disappointing for DSA enthusiasts.
I've bought it to relax a bit and I expected it to be just a title for 2–3 hours and uninstall it. However, it got me and I finish it, which is a rare event for me nowadays.
I didn't expect much from this game. I've finished Deponia, Edna and Harvey and I was looking for next game from the developer. I wanted something funny, but I've got a very nice story adventure game.
Pros:
+ Good story
+ Style is good, even if I didn't like it at the start
+ Every screen has a few items. If you stuck, it's not a big deal to brute force the items
+ Almost no moon-logic. If someone wants a shovel, you need to bring him a shovel, not an orange and not a needle
+ Voice acting is good
Cons:
- Style and animation looks a bit weird at start
- Sometimes (sometimes, not often!) main hero can mix items only after he talked to someone or looked at something. It could be that you've got the idea already, but you cannot use the item because our hero didn't talk to someone about it
This game is so good that I bought the sequel to continue the story :)
Seriously, hints are so spare and too many times you run around scratching your head, giving the impression that you're on a dead end.
I like the story, but it's was much harder than The Whispered World and A New Beginning...
For being a Daedalic adventure, the animation are quite cheap. Probably all animation budget was migrated into the first Deponia.
You can see that there's a sensible notable difference in resolution between fondals and animated cutscenes.
Second that, the actual game version is without the spicy easter egg.
