Dead end
Pixel hunting Lot of padding I didn't expect a dead end in a 2000 adventure game. SPOILER ALERT When you are reaching the mine exit, look for the door, then right click the padlock. The character will examine the padlock and shoot only one bullet. You will need the second and last bullet after exiting the mine.

Plot holes and incoherent puzzles.
Although a much better story than its sequel, this game has plenty of plot holes that the developers never bothered to cover up. There are issues like the main protagonist being present on two places at the same time and so on. Game mechanics consist of pixel hunting, red herrings and illogical puzzles. There was a lot of dying involved before I managed to figure it out what the game wanted me to do. It required to save the game frequently. There were no hints available anywhere to at least give you some indication what was expected from you. Terrible voice acting, obnoxious people, wolves in England in 1981, really? It looks like an Eastern European story transplanted to England. It would be more believable if it was taking place in Poland or Roumania than in UK. Anyway, apart from those things mentioned above, I enjoyed this game enough to try playing it's sequel, and that is another story.

Overrated czech point n click adventure
+ dark athmosphere of old british manor + ok graphics for 2003 + nice 4/5 of story - very slow game - movement of main character, slow interaction with inventory, slow response and talking of all characters, slow interaction with puzzles and even slow manipulation with main menu - you have to be REALY patient for this game - game uses one very unfair trick quite often, some items are visible all the time on game screen, but some of them are interactive and detectable by mouse cursor only since some specific moment or specific action and nobody warns you about this game feature. This led me to complete stuck many times during game, in the finale i was really fed up with this - few annoying puzzles - not so good writing, i would expect much more from "the best czech adventure game ever" - after something which looks like ending comes sudden final episode which makes no sense, seems very rushed and looks like attempt for psychological horror style ending - disappointing! - there is one sudden quicktimeevent which doesnt look like QTE at all, more like a noninteractive animation, if you fail (and you surely fail many times before realise that) you die. This made me stuck for days, devs must hate their players Good only for very patient hardcore adventurers or if played with walkthrought next to you, nice story, too much WTF ending, insanely slow and very tricky gameplay. 2.5 /5 I cant believe this got so high ratings.

not a classic, but still worth a play
This is one of those adventure games that leave you on the fence... Firstly, it's got great graphics for its time, very detailed sceneries that you can study for hours. Secondly, it's very atmospheric and sucks you in its world. Lastly, it's quite long, prepare to spend quite a few days with it. However, the plot, while decent and quite intriguing at first, unravels to a relatively expected and not that engaging finale, which leaves you wondering what was the point, let alone a few plotholes created by the "twist". This is not helped by a dreadful performance from the main character's voice. Simply annoying. Finally, for some reason the creators enjoyed injecting lengthy dialogue for no purpose other than make the characters sound "aristocratic", for lack of a better explanation. Anyway, I can't say I didn't enjoy my time with it. Most of the puzzles are rational, but some really weird ones exist that will stretch your patience and have you go looking for a walkthrough. Plus the waiting... some dialogue or items in order to open up need waiting but there is no button for it so you just go around and around expecting for the action to open up. TL;DR: very good graphics and atmosphere, semi interesting plot, lengthy gameplay, mostly reasonable puzzles, bad voice acting, filler dialogue, disappointing finale.
