Dissappointing experience
Tachyon is a spacevehicleshooter that came out near the tail end of the genres decline and while this time produced some of the most well remembered of those games, sadly Tachyon isn't one of them. Some of my dissappointment has got to do that I never played this game when it was (relatively) new so I can't claim any nostalgia to make it better. So what does this game wrong what games like Freespace, I-War or Starlancer did right? The main thing for me is the delivery of the story and worldbuilding, which honestly feel lazy and I didn't feel connected with anything there was going on. You're this bro-type of guy doing missions for either the corpers or rebels, you always start from a big spacestation and autopilot through some nearby placed portals to the place where you have to do your job, which often is escorting other craft and shooting enemies or land on a landingpad for a few seconds. All this mundane stuff would be excusable if the gameplay was actually good, but it isn't. Shooting isn't satisfying, your lasers don't seem to do much damage, don't make an intimidating noise and barely go any faster than your craft, enemies fly extremely eractic and can apparently conveniently fly through solid structures, energy management is annoying and serves more as busywork than give you an edge, enemy stations have laserturrets, which sometimes can be disabled but sometimes not, which means you're severely screwed as turrets are the only things that are really dangerous. Maybe the thing that bothers me the most is that Tachyon gave me flashbacks of Wing Commander: Privateer, because the game is structured in a similar way but it seems that somewhere in developement they decided to not go for an openworld spacetrader. The only positive I can say is that the graphics are okay (for its day) and held up decently but that can be said for most spacegames of that period. All in all I can't really recommend Tachyon, I had even worse experience than playing Darkstar One.
Hilft dir das weiter?
