Syberia

For some reason, I could not download and install this game through GOG directly on ANY of my SSDs or HDDs. It would download, but then say "install failed". Despite saying Install failed, it would leave the game folder behind in the install location (even after telling GOG to uninstall the game). Trying to run the .EXE after this (from the aforementioned game folder) would bring up an error that said my hardware was unsupported. However. downloading the offline installer from the "extras menu" allowed me to succesfully install and run Syberia. -Windows 11 -Ryzen 5 46000H -NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GB GDDR6 Variant -16gb of 3200mhz DDR4

I just started playing Syberia again, I played it when it first came out in 2002 (?). I loved it then and I still love it now. The concept, storyline, artwork and visuals (especially), voiceovers, music, atmosphere... I think they're all excellent and the whole ends up greater than the sum of the parts for me. When I play a game like this I like to get lost in its world, feel like I'm there and walking through it. I like to take my time and get immersed, enjoy it, without racing to complete it. Syberia is that for me. In the game there are a number of different "worlds" within that world you must navigate through. I enjoyed them all and they were all unique. I thought it was challenging and complex enough for evening escapes, with a great plot arc that kept me interested, curious, and engaged throughout the game. Like peeling back the layers of an onion. It isn't just a bunch of puzzles to be solved, that's only the half of it. I think it's a great and imaginative story. It's interesting to read some of the other reviews here and the shortcomings some people experienced. Everyone has different likes, so read through the reviews, see what resonates with what you're looking for.

For me it's one of the most fantastic point-and-click adventures ever! Great story, brilliant voice acting, unforgotable mood and above all amazing pictures that have unique style that only few artists can create.

I don't normally play point and click games, but this one was quite entertaining. The story starts out slow and picks up later, and it's a nice change from typical game stories - it is more like a novel. The puzzles are mostly logical, as long as you remember to use the phone and revisit areas and people. It should be said that the game *does* run on modern computers, maybe other people had problems with specific hardware or drivers. The game crashed only once for me and otherwise worked "out of the box". Save often to avoid losing progress.

Very cool story, interesting characters with somewhat unusual goals. I was unsure whether to award it 4 or 5 stars, because some decisions you have to make in the game are just redundant (like hit a specific dialog option when everything's set up right before Kate's eyes) or just plain stupid (yeah, I'm talking to you, Barrockstadt flow terminal control). The story's too good to let it at just four stars, so there you have it. Kudos for the voice actors, especially for those incredibly upsetting phone calls when you got your hands full and just need to scram.
