The granary is full, my lord.
This is such a great game! Sure, the graphics are dated, the castle management isn't as in-depth as some modern strategy games, but even so this game blasts most modern medieval strategy games clean out of the water. The combat can be brutal if you crank up the difficulty, laying siege to a rival's castle without proper planning can see your screen full of knights summarily turned to paste by a handful of crossbowmen atop a stone tower. You need to plan your assault, analyse what defences there are, what land obstacles lay before you, then build you units accordingly. Likewise, defending your own castle needs planning, Having high stone walls lined with crossbowmen, archers, and burning tar is great, but if you only have a single layer of wall then a trebuchet will make light work of you. The combat and castle building is great, but another aspect is managing castle life. You have to build farms and granaries to feed and store food for your civilian workers, you need to build entertainment to keep the peasants happy, you need to ensure they are safe from attack. If you fail to keep the peasants happy they will leave and you'll have nobody to train into combat units or make the weapons you need. Such an amazing game.
