STAR WARS™: X-Wing Special Edition

I loved this game so much! I can remember using my X-Wing to make raids against convoys, and charging down capital ships! The gameplay was imersive, and the campaign challenging, but still doable. The graphics are dated and low res, and it would be great to see someone do a mod to update the graphics. X-Wing vs Tie had better graphics and played well, but it didn't have as great of a campaign.

I was thinking just the other day about these games and the next thing I know they are here! Great stuff, always loved these X-wing /Tie Fighter games.

This is one of the greatest games ever made. The design is exquisite and the way the game captures the action and business of star fighter piloting is spot on. This is a masterclass on immersion and capturing magic, the attention to details are remarkable. What are essentially UI transitions are shown as shuttle rides between capital ships. Thank you GOG for FINALLY bringing in these games and giving them a home where a new generation can be exposed to the greatest game series the franchise ever spawned.

I've been waiting on this to come back for years. Great port. Runs well. It found my x-52 stick and throttle and I was flying missions in no time. I even started to remember the keyboard commands! Even with dated graphics, the game holds up. Gameplay is king and this one was perfect. You will feel like you are living Star Wars. Hey Disney! Go find the guys who built this back in the day and get them started working on an X-Wing for the new movies! Thanks for bringing this back Gog!

This game is the first in the X-Wing series. It is one of the best games I have ever played, on the same scale as Doom, Frontier: Elite 2 and Baldur's Gate. It pits you in the role of a new pilot in the rebellion in between the times of Episode 3 and Episode 4. As you go through the game you gain skill and the game rewards your skills with awards in terms of medals and promotions. The atmosphere in the game is great, the John Williams sound track never fails to get the heart pumping when you are in a dog-fight. Also the fact that you had to balance your recources (while common in similar games these days) was a pretty new thing back when it was first released. Not only was it there, but it the game was hard enough with the AI that you had to mind these. Another factor is your allies. If you don't look after your wingmen and fleet, they will either quit the field as having been dameaged too badly or simply be destroyed. This means that you quickly become swamped and destroyed. If you like flight sims, you will love this game. It is very much best played with a joystick, but you will need to remember keyboard commands in order to survive.
