The Force has waned in this one
I first played Jedi Academy back in 2008 and had a lot of fun with it. Sadly, the game has aged rather poorly and 14 years later it's just not the same as I remember it. The levels can be quite large and confusing and with no map or any objective markers, it's really easy to get lost. I had to resort to noclip on several occasions to progress, as the way to the objective was all but clear. The lightsaber fights are very sloppily implemented, you just swing the saber around and hope for the best; this becomes very annoying in later stages when all of your opponents are also using lightsabers. You also have other weapons at your disposal, but there's really no reason to use them, as the saber and some Force powers take care of all your needs. All that makes the game more frustrating than I recall from 14 years ago. On the flip side, throwing enemies into obligatory bottomless pits using the Force is as satisfying as ever, the graphics are pretty nice with some good lighting effects (particularly sabers glowing in the dark), and there are times when everything just clicks for a while. The story's serviceable, nothing to write home about. Lastly, the music and sound effects are your Star Wars standard - expectedly good, but exactly the same as in every other Star Wars media. So overall a decent Star Wars game, but not much more.
