Dieses Mal ist die Macht dabei!

Hier geht's zu meinem Nostalgie-Waetsch's Play: Auf YouTube suchen (leider kein Link möglich): AlYXGec4qs4 Es gibt Spiele, da kann man sich die Rezension kurz machen. Spielt es einfach! Jedi Knight ist für mich eines der besten Star-Wars-Spiele überhaupt, und mit Mods kann man dies auch heute auf modernen Rechner sehr smooth spielen. Ja, die Grafik ist natürlich aus 1997 und die Texturen wirken manchmal etwas matschig, die Charaktere sehr kantig. Aber all das verhindert nicht den Spielspaß, Kyle Katarn bei seiner Reise zum Jedi zu begleiten. Ein nahezu perfekter 1st-Person-Action-Adventure-Shooter mit einem stimmigen Setting, einer spannenden Geschichte, tollem Gameplay. Augen etwas zudrücken bei der Grafik und einfach eintauchen und Spaß haben :-)

Quite the adventure

Jedi Knight may not be the prettiest looking game in the series (even sprite-driven first installment is more beautiful), but this game is in some ways a step up from the original and one of the most unusual action games I've ever played. JK combines features of a Quake-like shooter (with its fast-paced crazy gunfight dynamics and open and twisted levels), slasher (our hero is an aspiring Jedi/Sith wielding a lightsaber, after all), and simple RPG (in depending on our attitude towards living beings in the game world, we enter the branch of the "light" or "dark" side of the force, acquiring the appropriate set of abilities; some plot twists and the ending itself also change). All this together looks unexpectedly harmonious, which, apparently, is no small accomplishment. This does not mean that there are no flaws: as I said, the graphics sometimes look ugly; the abilities of the "light" and "dark" sides of the Force are unbalanced in favor of Light; jumps (both regular and "Force-Jump") are a bit clunky; and sword fighting is very simple “click your opponent to death”. It's no easy to get to work on modern OS. But the game is addictive, both because of its unusual gameplay and because of the interesting plot about Kyle Katarn's search for himself. Perhaps Jerec (antagonist of JK) and his minions in FMVs are more goofy than menacing (despite being quite deadly in the actual gameplay). However, with time I more and more think of them as more of external forces (like whirlwind) that can push our hero to one or another choice, and so their (sometimes outright comic) presentation is not much important in that regard. In general JK shares one distinctive feature with the original trilogy – it feels like real adventure in which your hero slightly transforms from cynical and low-life mercenary-like type (like he was in the first Dark Forces) into someone different (for good or for bad - is left to the player). This game feels like it is more than sum of its parts.

Works Perfectly on Windows 11

This is still such a great game. I saw some other reviews saying it had been difficult to get working on newer systems, but it worked straight after installation for me on Windows 11.

A great game; an incomplete port

This game will forever have a special place in my heart as one of the most "Star Wars" things to have ever been made. However, the game requires some manual tinkering to get basic 3D acceleration to work, and I cannot get the background music to work at all, in spite of an impressive effort by the community. Your mileage may vary depending on your operating system.

This was my absolute favorite FPS

This was my absolute favorite first person shooter back in the day, it had a good story, an interesting variety weapons, a great atmosphere, superb cutscenes... The maps were awesome, it was the first game that really gave the feeling of being huge. The moment when you reach that huge tower and have to find your way in past AT-ST walkers and such... Getting strafed by a tie bomber when you finally reach the top of the tower... Releasing Sam from Sam&Max from a secret storeroom and let him kill the rest of the level... Shooting a grenade at a stormtrooper and making it stick with a timed detonator and watch him run to his friends and take them all with him... It was absolutely fantastic BUT still I won't buy it to play it again and I'll explain why. While this is a truly superb FPS it remains a FPS and those really don't age well at all. The story and map is completely linear, the AI is extremely outdated... So IF you want to buy this understand that you are buying a real old game and accept the flaws that come with old fps games, however great they may be.
