Best Age of Empires ;)

Sure, it is not much more than a reskinned conversion of AoE2, but using the Star Wars theme does add a lot of charm to the formula, even though it is a bit odd that droids would need food. ;) At the same, it does add something new with its flying units. It's also the only occasion where I don't mind the Gungans. It may not be the best RTS ever made, but it's quite fun to play still.

go to VOOBLY to play online!

I see a lot of ppl on here confused about swgb multiplayer. It does have online play at voobly.com and it's very similar to the msn zone that was the original host for this game. Also it auto-patches to support widescreen hi res so you don't have to do all the work of d/ling a patch and installing... all automatic. Definitely get this game and join the online community at voobly!

Great Game

I owned the original disk for many years. I had to use various programs to get the game to work. GOG has done a great job and fixed graphics for the game to fit modern machines. It has everything I remember. This was when games gave a lot of content. There are 8 major campaigns with lots of missions and random map games. I personally really like the Trade Federation. They also have air combat which is an improvement on Age of Empires 2 so it is not just a copy. I have not tried the multiplayer but I was only really interested in the singleplayer. This is for a great price and a game full of content. If you enjoyed games like Age of Empires and love Star Wars this is the game for you.

About Time

This is a great strategy game. Resources, units gathering, the ocasional roar of a wookie, Droids, and in the all seasoned Star Wars Universe. This was one of the most played games it will not dissapoint.

Making a Great Old Game Even Better!

Notwithstanding the somewhat dated graphics and limitations of the venerable Genie engine, this is a tremendously fun game with endless replayability. To get around the problem of running it at a higher resolution on a dual monitor setup, simply follow this process: 1) Download and install the widescreen patch from the PC Gaming Wiki website; then 2) run the program in windowed mode through the DxWnd utility (which can be obtained from Sourceforge). The path should reference the modified widescreen executable, which is wide_battlegrounds_x1.exe. All the settings in DxWnd can be left at default although I've found that tweaking it to start with the game centered on the main display and the resolution set to 1588 X 907 is the ideal setting for a 1920X1080 desktop. The reason for that odd dimension is that it avoids stretching and produces the clearest text display (that otherwise can look distorted and/or unfocused). It should be noted, however, that you can still re-size the window to any dimension you want simply by dragging on the sides with your cursor and that once in game the cursor will be bounded by the window frame allowing for proper scrolling.
