One of the best Trek games ever made!

There are plenty of Trek games out there... some good, some not. This one is one of my two favorites. It's not the 1st Trek FPS, but this game captures "being in Star Trek" better than any other game. Here, YOU are in Starfleet! A few reviews here discuss how it's "old" and "shows its age." Not so much. You can tell you're looking at a CGI character, not a real human being... but NO game has ever really breached the "uncanny valley" and given us CGI characters indistinguishable from real people. The game is a masterfully immersive "deep dive" into the TNG-era "Star Trek" universe. You're an ensign (never seen on screen, but always there) on the USS Voyager. Tuvok decides to create a special team... a "Hazard Team"... with special training and equipment, to respond to "extreme situations" the regular crew would find beyond their skills or training. And you're one of the crew assigned to that team. (Other team members include two characters seen on the show, not including Tuvok, and several newly created ones.) The game is set near the end of Voyager's run, shortly before it returned home, but before the series finale. You (especially with the add-on content provided with this package) have the ability to go anywhere (almost) in the ship. For a Trek fan, it's very entertaining to do so, but for others, you can just play the game straight through. It has a "holodeck" where you can basically play "shoot everything" competitive play (against AI or against other real people). And... while this is harder to find these days... it has a lot of "extra content" created. ESPECIALLY if you're a fan of the original Star Trek series... I recommend looking for the "Starbase 11" mod and the "Virtual Dreadnought" mod. (Your best bet to find these, these days, would be with the "Mod db" website, on the page for this game, under "addons." The site that used to host them, "Spacestation K7," is long since closed down, however.)

Voyager got a great Star Trek Game

Any fan that's looked for good games based on Star Trek knows that they are hit and miss. This one was a definite hit! What's really special about this one is it's an FPS which isn't something you'd expect from Star Trek. I stumbled upon it after getting into Voyager a few years ago on Netflix and researching stuff relasted to the show. I had a blast from Start to Finish. For the era it's from, it really put you into the world of Voyager and it's characters. As soon as I discovered GOG released this and the sequel, I bought them both ASAP. Looking forward to playing through them again... and again... and again! I was pleased to see the Virtual Voyager expansion included as well!

Good Star Trek, bad FPS

This is a single player only review. I played on Hard straight away, first time through. The game itself is entertaining. The story is cool, and feels like a multi part episode of Voyager. The controls handle well, and besides a run toggle option, it pretty much has all the modern FPS controls intact, which wasn't a certainty at the time. As an actual shooter, though... it's incredibly tame. Enemy AI is mostly "rush the character" or "stand back and shoot" with different skins and HP, so you pretty much stand around with whatever the most powerful weapon you've got on hand and shoot it. Ammo is plentiful enough you don't need your phaser besides shooting environmental features, though it can get tight when the game has a mob spawn. Explosions don't do much splash damage so the personal Photon launcher is single target. Partner AI ain't much better. They shoot less, but they do shoot. They also get in your way plenty, take too much time to load onto elevators. Occasionally a bug happens that requires reloads, like a character getting shot that is supposed to trigger a cutscene but doesn't. There's lot of intuiting where to go. It's not too bad but there's a time component to some of these things that isn't listed that can get annoying; you don't know whether you should be doing something or if the game needs to decide to move forward. This is especially true during the "go do X social thing on Voyager" objectives. Anyway, worth a play for a Trek fan. That's who it was made for. People looking for a challenging FPS with great level design and clever enemy "combat chess" aren't gonna find it here.

Finally, I can Rest!!!!!

I'll keep this brief: As someone who has struggled to get this running on a modern PC I about cried when I saw GoG list it. Never again do I have to listen to 'WELCOME TO VOYAGER'S LCARS MENU SYSTEM' on loop as I troubleshoot. Never again do I have to use level select codes to bypass crashing to the desktop. 'WELCOME TO VOYAGER'S LCARS MENU SYSTEM'. Never again do I have to suffer with the abysmal lag of the PS2 port 'WELCOME TO VOYAGERS LCARS MENU SYSTEM'. FREEEEEEEDOM!

A solid shooter with an exciting story

So as a heads up, i'm writing this having only had the CD version (so far) Elite Force is such a solid title, I really enjoyed the story, found it to be a nice unique story and really fits well in the Star Trek setting. Well rendered cutscenes and dialog from the original cast and crew really get the immersion going. Between missions you get to stroll around Voyager a little and explore places you've seen on the shows. The places you get taken to are quite diverse with a mix of old and new bits from the established lore. The multiplayer component is also excellent (it was also made available standalone free as holomatch). Highly moddable and lots of console commands worth digging into. Especially if you want to add in lots of bots bot_minplayers or play some of the other gamemodes which for some reason are not readily available like Assimilation mode. If you enjoy shooters it's worth picking up, if you enjoy trek it's worth picking up, enjoy both and it's a must have. If you want a little plot hook for your curiosity: (Spoiler of initial story premise this point on) Given the dangerous Voyager faces being so far from home. Tuvok aims to create the Hazard Team to undertake dangerous missions. This newly formed unit couldn't come at a better time as Voyager encounters a probe that disables and teleports them to a Starship graveyard.
