Amazing concept, somewhat poor execution
Spellforce has amazing potential and from the get-go you'd think it can certainly live up to it. However it's the little things that take it down. Quite simply it's boring and not that well designed. Here's a list in no particular order: The voice acting is pretty bland. Fog of war resets everytime you leave area(which I found very annoying). Level design could use a lot of polish. Story could use a rewrite. RTS component could use an overhaul starting from the design of mechanics/races right down to how the engine handles the RTS play. RPG controls were on the right track, but still need a fair bit of work. How the engine handles certain things like aggro could use a bit of work. And finally: Devs could benefit from a bit of brains so that they realize when to stop adding things and start making the things that are there work together well so that what you get is a finished game, not an ad-hoc mix of different mechanics. They quite simply bit off more than they can chew.
