FreakZone Games nailed gameplay and esthetics of 90s platformers. They also added genuinely funny writing to the mix turning Sparky into spectacular experience.

Pure, Chaotic, Charming Fun
Spectacular Sparky immediately caught my eye with its vibrant, bouncy visual style and adorable protagonist, and it kept my interest throughout my entire play through. I was able to beat the game in one sitting--I took a break to get some pizza, though--and I feel that's the game's only flaw: it's a bit short! That being said, it doesn't overstay its welcome, and I'm just itching to play through the campaign mode again. Alongside the beautiful graphics, the soundtrack is a joy to listen to and the voice acting adds so much charm. The game oozes fun from each and every pixel, and every game mechanic is focused on fun first. You have unlimited lives and continues, checkpoints are more than generous, and every enemy is immediately recognizable and fun to kill. The bosses are all charming, some offer a bit of challenge, and there's a cute little story to wrap everything together. Quite honestly, this game quickly became one of my favorite platformers. I'd highly recommend anyone give it a try if they're curious enough. It's well worth your time and money.

Easy recommend for most
Spectacular Sparky is like a Saturday morning cartoon with more violence (outright gory at points) and somehow less meaning. I beat the game in a few hours, and on the right difficulty (there's several to pick from) I think anyone could have a good time. Spraky is a 4 star for me because I don't enjoy the boss design. Maybe it's down to my distaste for platformers leading to unusual expectations, but I found them to be largely spongy and long-winded fights. The boss fights did get better towards the latter forth of the game, but every single one up to that point just seemed generic or uninspired (with the exception of some repeated antagonist fights that I found to be kinda charming). There were also times when the lack of animation stuck out to me, like when a boss' face would remain completely frozen or how the protagonist doesn't really move when he's in his ship. These feel like cost cutting measures that took away a bit from the charm for me, but I won't knock the game for it. It's just something you may notice during play. Easily recommended, even if you dislike the majority of 2D platformers.

Short but Spectacular
This game feels like a classic Genesis era shooter game. Short run and jump levels which do not carry too much danger, and rather challenging but fun boss encounters with fun quips between you and the bosses. Smooth fun gameplay and great music and graphics that seem to hit the intended style very well. An easy recommend for anyone who likes boss fights in over the top pixel art platformers. If you don't much enjoy boss fights or Genesis style platformers, this probably won't do too much to win you over. The game is a bit short (5x4 stages, each taking 2-6 minutes per stage if you know what you're doing). So if you want a longer challenge, be ready to go for time attack or harder difficulties. Also some of the boss fights end up being a bit of a mess with enemies or projectiles all over the place. You either need to get lucky, or know how to manipulate where the boss will shoot to not end up with a random salad of carnage. Hats off to anyone who can one-shot this on the hardest difficulty.

great 16-bit style shooter/platformer
Great 16-bit style shooter/platformer. A bit on the easy side, so play on hard mode if you grew up in that era.
