Gripping Plot, Narrative and Questions

As with all reviews, take this with a pinch of salt, but it left me emotional, with a bitter-sweet taste - which is something I really like in literature, movies and games. And it raised some questions that in my view are increasingly more relevant. Tldr: I would definitely suggest you give the game a try (and do yourself a favor and stay on it... I played it on and off for over 3 years and the story got confusing because of the really long breaks; also - yes, apparently I am that bad at games lol)

HUMAN Life In A MACHINE Age

This is going to be a rather short, but sincere opinion, and five stars for Soma: I had read and heard various opinions here and on the Net for some time, before I just decided to give it a run and see for myself. On sale or at the regular price I recommend it for a surreal experience I'll not give away, or go into a long psychological description of it -- it is a suprising and rather humorous take (maybe dark humor, but personable too) on human ingenuity in the face of threat of extinction. I am making progress, enjoying it immensely; a far cry from the arcades I remember in the 1970s! Lol. If you appreciate ironic and apocalyptic entertainment, as either a truly interactive story or more difficult game, it allows you to choose which you would have for Your enjoyment. And the sparse characterization is very well developed: only sorry they may have an unhappy ending; this is not a spoiler because I really haven't gotten there yet. Highly recommended, for first-person adventure and scifi fans! Thanks again GOG :-)

Atmosphärisch-philosophisches Horrorgame

Die Survivalhorror Meister Frictional Games haben sich hier zwar nicht vom Genre entfernt, aber ein wenig aus der Amnesia Materie herausgewagt. Sci-Fi Horror und das ganz ohne Weltraum! - Mögt ihr die Spiele Amnesia, Iron Lung, System Shock 2 oder Alien Isolation? - Mögt ihr die Filme "Matrix", "Das Boot" oder "The Abyss"? - Dürfen Games auch mal zum Denken anregen anstatt 110% Daueraction abzufeuern? Falls Ja , dann empfehle ich wärmstens SOMA! Geht am besten blind rein, mit anderen Worten, jetzt folgen +++ minimale Spoiler +++ Um das schnell öde werdende Katz- und Mausspiel mit einem Boogieman zu durchbrechen ist das Grauen in diesem Spiel in schönen Schichten angeordnet: - Gegner, die man nicht bekämpfen, nur fliehen kann. Jedoch mit unterschiedlichen Taktiken um zu überleben (einige Gegner sind blind aber hellhörig, andere darf man nicht ansehen, wiederum andere werden langsamer wenn man sie gezielt ansieht) - Uboot Atmosphäre: Der mix aus engen, maschinellen Umgebungen und dunklem Wasser dutzende bis tausende Meter unter der Oberfläche ist sehr gut eingefangen. - Endzeitstimmung: Die Menschheit liegt in ihren letzten Atemzügen und als Spieler ist man nahezu völlig alleine, erlebt die letzten Tage einer sterbenden Welt. - Existenzieller Horror: Was bedeutet es Mensch zu sein? Was für schreckliche Dinge geschehen, wenn KI versucht menschliches Leben zu retten? Was , wenn man über den Tod hinaus "existieren" müsste? SOMA ist nicht das Horrorspiel mit dem meisten Gore, es hat keine unzähligen Jumpscares, physische Gewalt ist überschaubar... Aber der Horror kommt in vielen Facetten, man denkt auch noch über die aufgeworfenen Fragen nach, lange nachdem das Spiel beendet ist. Ich habe es mehrere Male gespielt und finde besonders bestechend die Atmosphäre und das Grausame Gedankenexperiment welches den Kern der Handlung bildet.

Delightfully Disturbing

This game literally made me tremble with fear, but it's 95% conducive to folks who like to explore and take it slow, and you'll be rewarded with context and dialogue. It has a lot of BioShock, Alien: Isolation, and Dead Space 2 vibes, with cyberpunk / transhumanist themes. It took me about 18 hours to complete, but I'm the type of person to spend a lot of time hiding & backtracking, so do with that what you will. The overall physics feel quite good: interacting with objects, turning wheels, flipping switches; very nice. There were a couple of instances where I couldn't quite tell where to go next, but the maps are fairly well contained, so you're bound to get there with some trial and error. It also took a few rounds for me to figure out a couple of the monsters...good times. Overall, definitely recommend if you're a fan of stealthy survival horror.
