Not Bad, Not Great
Note: the game is unplayable until you've learned about the "drift" and "slipstream" mechanics, so make sure to play the tutorial. You can thank me later. Overall, the game has a nice retro arcade feel to it that might make you nostalgic if you played arcades as a kid in the 80s (and probably 90s too). The execution is good, the game is stable, the atmosphere and music are spot on. So far, I haven't found the game to have incredible amounts of depth so I don't see anyone playing this for hours on end, but if you have a 15-30 minutes break in your day and need to play something quick, it can be a relaxing de-stressor. The races are not that long. Not sure how much appeal the game has for someone who wasn't around to play arcades in the 80s and early 90s. Unlike many other retro-themed indie games, I don't think this one adds much to the source material. I can't help for feel that they could have capitalized on combining the unique feels of old arcade racing games with a modern perspective to add something unique to the table that could have drawn younger gamers in, but they missed the mark there. So overall, this is a nice recollection, but nothing revolutionary and probably a disappointment for gamers that don't have rose-tinted retro goggles to approach the game with.
Hilft dir das weiter?
