Cute game with fun mechanics

There's a lot to love about this game. PROS: - Game is visually pleasing. Slimes are very interesting and cute. The environment is beautiful and varied. - Game has really chill and relaxing music. - Game mechanics are interesting and well done. Exploration feels good using the jetpack to speed yourself along and find hidden goodies. The vac is a fun way to interact with things. - Lots of collectables and achievements. - There's a nice backstory there, that isn't forced down your throat, but available if you look for it. - There's a good amount of content to keep you entertained. CONS: - If you don't like incrementals you might not enjoy it as there are strong elements from that genre. - The game was kind of stressful to me, after you get a fair amount of slimes, it can be pretty time consuming to sit and feed and "harvest" all their cages that is just an ever present pain. There are drones you can automate some of it, but they seem to be intentionally limited and you can't really defer all your work to them. Slime rancher was a good game, I enjoyed it quite a lot. My kids also became somewhat obsessed with the very cute slimes. There's an option to turn off the scary black tar slimes, so it's a great game for kids and adults.

Adorable fun mostly chill game

Not sure why that other guy says its for children, yes it is cute and rather simple to pick up but it does get rather complex later game with the science lab and other tools. Kind of like stardew valley it kind be as chill or as frantic as you like. I have a bunch of hours (idk how many exactly) on xbox and decided to pick this up on sale for PC as the sequel is in EA. GoG does miss out on the free cosmetic DLC packs which is a shame but the trade off is that I actually own the game buying from here instead of steam so I'll take that deal. A few notes for people that might stress like me. 1. If you shoot a slime into the ocean they don't die they join the mother slime and eventually pop back out of the ground somewhere else ( I did not like the idea that I was murdering my pets if I couldn't take care of them) 2. When they are starving they look in really bad shape but they won't expire from this and if you have to let them stay hungry for a bit while you get other things sorted in your base thats ok 3. Try different mixtures of slimes and try for a good amount of variety if you want to maximise money but there is no time limit so if you love rad slimes you can have everyone be part rad.. or cat... or bee or whatever you like seeing around your home :)

So much booping; buy on sale

I could go on about mechanics and other boring stuff, but the most important thing to know about this game is that you can get booped by a kitty slime. For 20$, it was a bit much when it launched in Early Access/In-Dev. Even now maybe 15 or so would've been more appropriate, but you definitely get a lot of slime for your dollar now -- especially when it goes on sale, which is frequently enough. There is a time investment involved if you want to grab everything, but the pace is super-casual (unless you're playing on Rush mode) and death is generally rare enough to be more of a nuisance than an obstacle, especially once you've got your upgrades nailed down. There's not much of a story, but there is a bit of backstory from the former owner, as well as blips into the PC's prior life. Its perfect for this style of game; what story it has is there, but doesn't interfere with the ranching life. You can even completely ignore the emails at your home and signposts in the world for the most part; it's that kind of game. As for the ranching part... what is there to say? Some of the slimes are annoying to keep around (not gonna spoil anything but one inparticular does NOT like to stay in its corral!), but they're so adorable you forget all about that when they're happily bouncing around. Just make sure not to cross TOO many or they'll go evil (if you're not on Casual mode, which I'd recommend for starters) and you'll either have to spray down the tar slime until it goes away or risk a full-on conversion in your pens. Overall, the game has a peaceful pace with moments of frantic action either as you scramble through a dangerous area or fight off tar slimes, spaced out far enough that they only become frustrating early on. Just keep at it, upgrade your gear, and don't lose your head when things start going crazy, and you should get through just fine.
