This item often goes on sale at GoG, which is what enticed me to buy it, so I feel like I need to put my experience out there to, I hope, save someone else some disappointment: I bought Alpha Centauri looking forward to add a classic game to my current machine's library, only to find out that the game won't start properly under Win7 64 bit. I've fiddled around with the install and spent more hours than I'd care to acknowledge trying to find a fix online. So far, no luck. GoG's claim to fame is that all these classic games are supposed to run hassle-free on modern systems: Double click the install file and start playing right away. While that has held true for most of my purchases here, I'm sad to say that Alpha Centauri isn't up to GoG's usual standards. If you have a computer around still running an older OS, I've read that the GoG version runs just fine. But if you have 64 bit Windows, expect to have trouble with this game.

I got this game waaay before this site released it. Yes, that means I got it on disk, but it doesn't mean it's good. I'm not saying it's a bad game, it has the concept that no other game ever had before. You have a couple of factions, you build up your empire, research technologies, but it all comes with a price. This game is a Bit*h to get around it. I spent my first month playing the game, going and looking up walkthroughs and looking at gameplays because I could not get my head around it. The countless random buttons and no tutorial kind of makes this game really bad, but it's awesome at the same time. Definetly give this game a go if you like old school strategy games.

This is one of my all time favorite games. In my top 10 best games of all time. I love it. However why are they selling it without Alien Crossfire? That pack is so deeply ingrained in the Alpha Centauri experience that I can't imagine playing without it. It's like half a game almost....hence half the score :/ I hope this will be fixed or at least become available in some way.

I would have bought this just to have as a backup to my original cds but there is no ailen crossfire available. Oh well...
