Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri™ Planetary Pack

Literally. This needs Alien Crossfire though -greatly improves the game (thus making it better than the best game ever).

Truly one of my favourite Civ "clones" ever. Call to Power rates equal, however I can never choose between I or II. But I digress. If you love 4x turn Based games, go for it, SMAC is definitely a classic. FYI, I don't know why so many are asking for Alien Crossfire, it is included in the game I got.

Incredible narrative, a unique setting and with powerful personalities leading each nation/state, this may be the greatest of all the civilization games. The meta-narrative behind each personality are on display with the wonderfully voice-acted quotes mentioning speeches, books and interviews each of the leaders have/give. The technology trees are varied, unit variety massive and the game gives a real sense of progression. The only drawbacks in this game is the buggy unit build management, and the opaque city growth.

Every once in a while i'll read a thread on Civfanatics that mentions SMAC's brillance. So I decided to give it a shot during the current GOG sale. All i can say is brillant. Civ 3 with a decent sci fi setting/story, customisable units, interesting tech tree, movies and motives that get you thinking. It feel more fun then civ v:g&k atm or even civ iv:bts. SMAX is included in the latest download.

This game was one of the two reasons I got a computer waaaayyy back when (the other reason being the internets). Any person who considers themselves a gamer should be required to play this game. Its THAT good ^^
