Cool game reminds me of that arnies movie called The Running Man really fun stratagy game.

Not particularly interesting
The premise seems to have been ripped straight from the pages of 2000AD, which would ordinarly be a slam dunk but it's just not that good. The whole experience is verging on obnoxious. The announcer was turned off almost immediately, it adds nothing except an extra layer of annoyance. An effort has been made to make the controls streamlined but ironically it gets in the way, for example the right mouse button being hard-coded to execute an action with a single press, more often than not ends up just making you do the wrong thing accidentally. Combat is unsatisfying. You'll always be outgunned and out-percentiled. Cover seems to matter very much for enemies, not so much for you. I was getting through the arenas and just feeling absolutely nothing. Killing enemies just gave more of a feeling of relief that some of the annoyance was out of the way, rather than a sense of achievement. No excitement to carry on playing. Turn-based games are usually my favourite but I've decided not to continue with this one.

Showgunners is not just for show!
This game follows the Firaxis formula of turn-based tactics, so it plays very well in the combat phase. I was pleasantly surprised to find a sleek, light RPG-style system outside of combat with exploration, loot collecting, combat ability unlocks and more. The only negative thing I have to say so far after playing through 3 episodes, but which struck me immediately, is that the art direction is a bit too cluttered. There's a bit too much visual information in the amazingly-detailed levels and you and the enemy units tend to get lost in the noise. Recommended play if you have that XCOM itch to scratch with something different.
