Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition

It's my favorite Shadow Warrior. This time the game's inspired Doom and Doom Eternal featuring a big long rope, but that's fine even Halo Infinite has something similar. Wang's jokes are back and are fun to listen. It took me like 8 hours to beat the game on normal excluding the last boss because I haven't slept all night and I wanted to beat the game faster. For those who are perhaps more experienced will probably beat it in 6-7. Despite being somewhat short, the game looks gorgeous and the new enemies are fun! There are some small Doom and Serious Sam references too. Overall the game's worth it if you're into FPS!

Shadow Warrior 3 is a very enjoyable, fun experience. That is if you like a over-the-top first person shooter with a cheesy and funny (for me at least) story, great gunplay and a nice variety of enemies. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous, the soundtrack is alright and I even enjoyed the platforming sections of the game (and I usually hate those). The biggest caveat is the length of the game. According to GOG Galaxy I spent about 5h 18m in the game from start to finish. I personally enjoyed it a great deal and don't regret buying it at launch price (€45). It was one the most enjoying gaming experiences I had in a while and I applaud the decision of the developers not to add any filler levels. And it's not like short first person shooters are anything new (I still remember you Elite Force 2). But I can understand everyone who doesn't want to spend €45 for a five hour game. For me it still an absolutely enjoyable and fun game. 5/5.

I'm a couple of hours in and I'm really loving this game. They obviously took a lot of inspiration from Doom Eternal but Doom 2016 took quite a bit of inspiration from Shadow Warrior 2013. I love Doom Eternal so having another game very much like it is great for me. Obviously with the over the top Shadow Warrior flair. I'm a big fan of arcade/arena type FPSs and this is a good one in my opinion. It even runs fine on my old 680 GTX on low settings. If you liked Shadow Warrior 2013 then you will likely like this one as well. It does seem like the game is on the short side though so maybe wait for a price drop before buying.

As many other already mentioned it isn't the same system as in the previous game with "gems" and too much weapons but with a handful of them and a katana. The gore level isn't that of the previous one but still good. Other think this game is "on rails" and not open enough. I really liked it to be that way because it's pure fun being routed through the levels as the story proceeds. If there is any "open worldish" in it, the games tend to be filled with time filler. Maybe that's why this game is thought of to be too short. The previous game had a lot of "time fillers" and additional levels for grinding for stuff. I liked it to not grind for stuff and just enjoy the beautiful levels and music. The story is somewhat cliche with being lied to and finally "all work togehter as team" and then happy end. But it's ok imho.

Note: Review while still playing the game. I am 5 hours in right now. Shadow Warrior 3 does many things right in my eyes. Combat is fast paced, relying on movement and using small enemies to keep you stocked with ammo and health. In addition to a solid weapon arsenal, Lo Wang gets a grappling hook, that allows him to swing around battle arenas and traverse the environment. The characters and humor are a big improvement over the second game, which had lots of downright badly written dialogue and Lo Wang was not likeable at all. In SW3 I found myself immensly enjoying the one-liners and the banter between characters. In terms of the graphics, I think this game looks very nice indeed. Lots of detailed backdrops for the levels. In terms of performance the game runs mostly well on my machine (RX6800XT @ 1440p @ 130 fps on High settings with FSR on). There are some combat intensive sceanrios however, where I could feel my framerate momentarily drop. On older hardware this could be even more pronounced, so i suggest to get a feel on how the game runs on other peoples systems. For such a fast paced shooter, fluent movement is essential. On the negative side I could mention that I frequently get stuck on geometry in the level, especially when trying to jump up the side of things like staircases. Also: On Gog there are no achievements as of now. I am pretty sure that they used to be mentioned on the storepage, but not any more. I know some people wont care, but I do and I sure hope they will be added soon. Overall great game, but be wary that this is drastically different from SW2 and closer to SW1, but with much more movement. It seem like a much more focussed and hand-crafted ecperience and it shows.
