A Fun Romp Through Hell

First off, The premise is wonderfully simple yet not boring. It's a funny way to start the game and amps you up for what's to come. This game will perform well on even a low-end PC, so props to the devs for utilising the engine well and making a wider group of people enjoy the game It also has as a built-in level creator, that is very easy-to-use. There are also a huge number of community-created maps too, so you'll always have something new to try. And finally, the most important point of all, the game is just plain old fun. No BS, it just throws you straight into the action and will keep you engaged with it's sense of humour.

A fun lunch break title

This game caught my attention because I've always loved speedrunning, despite not being very good at it, so naturally a game marketed to speedrunning would catch my attention. The gameplay is very simplistic. You are given whatever powers you need to complete the level, just get to the exit as quick as possible. This is literally it. The fun comes from getting better times on each level, which lead to some really interesting moments where you kick yourself for jumping when you probably couldv'e just run across a gap. The abilites you get for each level range from reversing gravity, to making platforms, to setting a spot where you can teleport back to, which make levels very puzzle-y and never really feel boring. There's also collectables which the game lets you collect then restart the level while recording that you've collected it, which is a god send since otherwise the locations of these objects pretty much promise that you'll time out of the level since they are either hidden very well or are difficult to get to. The main thing that makes me decrease this review by a star is that not every level is about maximizing your action economy or jumping at the best times or any of the other traditional glitchless speedrun techniques, it's about finding what "breaks" the level. This could me finding a different path through the level, using your powers in an interesting way, or simply absuing the tools given to you. For some reason this did not appeal to me as it means that some levels you have to run pretty much ad infinitum to just find the thing that breaks the level. In one such case early on it was a collapsable floor piece you could break that cuts off about 6 seconds of your time. This removed the feeling of speedrunning and starts to feel more like a puzzle game than a platformer. Realistically I give this game a 4.5 but since there isn't a half star function I have to put it at a 4/5. Overall I recommend this game fairly highly.

Perfect at what it is

It's a speedrun game, it appear to be using the same old school mechanics of speedrunning like strafing is going faster then just olding W, and such old school mechanics exploit. the title say it... it's a speedrunning game, so make a browser search for it if you don't know what that means before buying that game. There is secret beer to find hidden too in the story mode. Infinite rejouability with endless mode.

Silly but solid

SEUM takes everything that sucks about 3D platforming and turns it on it's head. Not a massive amount of depth, just speed running through level after level. But those levels are designed well and makes the most out of the power up mechanics you receive along the way. That, plus the music and comedic tone makes for an addictive ride. Nice little time waster here, especially if you like the game-play as I'm sure it'll keep you hooked. Well worth the price if you like fast paced platforming.

The devil stole my beer

I never heared of SEUM before. So I watched some gameplay videos to see if this game is my cup of tea. After watching the videos I decided to give the game a chance, also because it's not very expensive. I don't regret it. This game is very addicting. It's a fast paced 3D platformer. It can be best compared with a mixture of Super Meat Boy and Quake. The goal is always the same: "Reach the end of the level as fast as you can." Not only jumping into spikes or mines result in loosing a level. There is also a countdown. The countdown time is very thight. When the time runs out, you loose the level too. Each level has some puzzles and a hidden collectible (a beer can) in it. Some levels even have not so obvious shortcuts, so it's a good advice to explore the level first, even if you loose it in the first run. So you get an overview what to do. Then you can try to do it as fast as you can. After each successful run, you can compare your time with the leaderboard and try to beat the time of other players. The levels are very varied and get harder and harder very fast. You need fast reflexes, a good sense of orientation and sometimes also some frust resistence. Your character has the power to shoot fireballs. With these you can shoot at fireplaces which act like levers or you break some stuff. During your run you might also collect some other powers you need too solve the puzzles in the levels. I can't say how much levels the game has. I'm at the moment at level 41. But even if you've finished all the levels of the campaign, you can go on with the DLC levels, start the Endless mode, make own levels with the editor or replay all levels, try to find all hidden stuff and try to beat the times of your previous runs once again. The game has some kind of story but it's not that extraordinary, like in almost every platformer. In short: The devil stole your beer and you want to get it back. I like this game very much. But it might not be everybody's cup of tea.
