Robin Hood: Die Legende von Sherwood

Having been a huge fan of the Commandos games, I thought I'd give Robin Hood a try as it was on sale, but sadly I feel this game isn't quite polished enough to merit any more than 3 stars, and certainly wouldn't recommend paying the full price for it. While I don't think it's a bad game by any means, I just think it falls well short of the standard that Commandos set. There is a huge sense of repetitiveness that comes from the raid missions that happen in between the main story missions, as they all occur over just 3 different maps. Once you've seen those maps multiple times, it gets really tedious. I actually resorted to using a cheat code to get through some of them because I was just so bored of them by that point. And I just feel some of the characters have really useless abilities (like the apple throw) that meant I ended up using a few abilities from a few of the characters over and over. There were also occasions where I literally don't think there was a way to sneak past, and I was forced into combat, which I didn't like, as I enjoy playing these games in full stealth. The main upside I feel is the graphics, which are beautifully hand drawn and really draw you into the game. I also like the mechanic of the Merry Men training, and upgrading of their skills. Overall I'd say, if you're looking for a pure stealth strategy game, that you'd be best looking elsewhere. However, if not, this game could provide some hours of fun, but again I would wait till it's on sale!

I remember playing this game in 2000~ something as it was on CD added to the popular Polish gaming monthly magazine CD-ACTION. One of the best games of its kind, very unique.

Fantastic graphics, unfortuanetly the game only runs with 20 FPS. It is possible to run the game in 1080p, it looks amazing. The game was programmes with a fps limit of 20 fps, and therefore is for me not a pleasant experience to play. Everything feels a little laggy.

Amazing game, very good scenarios, unique i wish there was like a map editor or something and where you can play units.

Back when I was a kid, I was a huge fan of Robin Hood thanks to the amazing movie called Adventures of Robin Hood starring Errol Flynn. As the time passes i've discovered this gem in a form of demo, it made me get the full version of it immediately in a form of CD. While the gameplay looks similar to the Commando, it actually has new features of it's own such as the hub level, which you can command your troops to train in combat,harvest/create items that will be useful in later games or perform optional missions such as robbing the caravan, saving someone or deal with Prince John's scouts who went off to find your hideout. Another new feature has been added to the combat itself, this time you have to perform a mouse gesture to perform any kind of attacks for example. If you draw a circle, the character will spin around knocking anyone near him, useful when you get surrounded. Also in a hideout you can send your troops to help your allies in invasion or do it by yourself, which occurs in later missions. I have nothing to say about the music, it is just great and memorable. Also bonus points for making the Robin Hood look similar to Errol Flynn while he played as him in my childhood movie.
