Rise of the Triad: Dark War

This game was already weird at the time of its original launch. At the time of Doom and Doom 2, it took its visuals but the maps followed the original 90° concept in Wolfenstein, plus they added a technologically absolutely confusing verticality in the form of platforms made up of 2D sprites. Unfortunately, the maze design itself is what brings down the gaming experience.What in the form of shareware could be accepted as a better amateur clone of 3D FPS in their early days is now well beyond the edge to which today's gamer is accustomed. Who wants to experience a blind branch of development, this amateur-designed legendary game can be a good fit.

I've played a lot of older shooters like this and have to say: skip this one. The controls are awful, and you are limited in your options to remap them. That's the single biggest issue. For me, I spent more time fighting the controls than the enemy. The game also is extremely pixelated, probably due to its age. I see as I write this review that there is an updated "Ludicrous Edition" upcoming that should fix these issues. (Upcoming as of January 2022.) I might try that one out, and it might be a lot better, but as for this original: skip it. There are a ton of better old shooters to play.

I STILL LOVE THIS GAME

Such a game should be free to GOG users... How can you expect us to pay as much for this as for a game like Arx Fatalis for example ?
