Re-Volt

I love this game. I searched for a while how to get digital copy. Even after all this years it looks as I remember. Nice smooth for the time. I remember spending late weekends playing. It is a piece of nostalgia. I consider a bargain the price for such a nice game.

Played Single player, LAN, Online, even on Crossover cable connected netbooks, all modes are extremely fun. Amazing graphics (not ugly even now) wonderfull, lovely, diverse tracks and powerups. (all powerup is good despite of the diversity, there is no "weak powerup"). Secret vehicles, secret game modes (ex. 30-player clockworth race). The feel of the game is mesmerizing, the sounds, even the physics are very very lifelike, its unbelivable the game published in '99! For six dollars its a gift, there are many mods and user created cars and a still active racing community. Downsides are: -In multiplayer there are no AI cars wich is strange because racing them is very fun -The track editor is a simple tool, only 1 enviroment, you need to use third party tools to create "real" tracks yourself. (there are hundreds of very high quality user created maps out there)

At first look, it's a Mario Kart Clone. But trust me, it's not. This game is close to realistic (the level design is coherent, every car has a different handling, power-ups accuracy is balanced...) but never truly frustrating, and it's really fun. Furthermore, the community on this game is surprisingly big, providing lots of cars and tracks, but it's on decline, and i hope this version will wake it up. The GOG version is costum-made, not needing any unofficial patch or launchers, tweaks/fixes the game and supports modern computers greatly. It looks like it's the definitive version of the game

I was fond of a lot of "toy car racing" games when I was younger, so when I saw all the overwhelmingly positive reviews this game had I thought, "Oh, cool! I'll check that out." I played it for a bit, and I gotta say... I don't get it. It looks nice, I like the music, but actually playing the game was more annoying than fun. The physics are so wonky it's a chore to try and control your car. Even the slightest bump can send you spinning wildly out of control and send you to the back of the pack with very little chance to make up that ground. Maybe if I stuck with it, I'd realize it was actually full of nuance that make it amazing, but I'm not willing to spend the time it'd take to get there. I don't mean to crap on anyone's childhood favorite, but I thought I should leave a bit of criticism to show that this game may not be for everyone.

Ich habe dieses Spiel im Kindesalter auf einem Medion-PC unter Win 98 genießen dürfen. Als ich diesen Titel auf GOG gefunden habe, musste ich einfach zuschlagen. Das Spiel bietet 7 Spielmodi. Einzelspieler, Meisterschaft, Training, Zeitrennen, Stunt-Arena, Clockwork Carnage und Mehrspieler. Jede im Spiel verfügbare Strecke ist nicht nur im "Standard" verfügbar. Jede Strecke kann in den Zusatzmodi gespiegelt, rückwärts sowie rückwärts+gespiegelt freigeschalten werden. Des weiteren glänzt das Spiel mit einem eigenen Track-Editor. Dort könnt ihr mit limitierten Tiles eure eigene Strecke bauen, diese wird dann im Hauptspiel in der Kategorie Einzelspieler mit aufgeführt. Je nachdem wie ihr eure Strecke baut, wird diese (je nach Möglichkeit) automatisch für die freischaltbaren Zusatzmodi bereit gestellt. Jetzt zu den negativen Punkten, welche ich innerhalb meiner ersten 5 Spielstunden bemerkt habe: 1. Das Pickup "Schokwelle" funktioniert nicht richtig. Ich kann nicht beurteilen, ob es sich hierbei um einen lokalen Fehler auf meinem Rechner handelt oder dieses Problem global ist. Normalerweise soll das Item gerade nach vorne schnellen, evtl. von Wänden abprallen und alle Fahrzeuge, die es auf seinem Weg passiert in die Luft werfen. Egal mit welchem Fahrzeug ich das Item verwende, nach 3 Metern zerbricht die Sphäre. Grund unbekannt. 2. Manche Elemente außerhalb der Strecke (Zierden wie z. B. Gebäude) laden erst deutlich verspätet. Auf der Strecke Ghost-Town beispielsweise gibt es Gebäude, die außerhalb der Strecke positioniert wurden. Diese laden teilweise erst in Runde 2-3 oder gar nicht. Da diese beiden Punkte aber meines Erachtens nach als "Meckern auf hohem Niveau" gelten, sehe ich keinen Grund diesem Revival eine negative Bewertung zu geben. Wer dieses Spiel aus seiner Kindheit kennt und liebt, wird von dieser Version mindestens genauso begeistert sein wie vom Original. Viel Spaß beim Spielen!!
