Good adventure history case solving, nothing to lose

If you don't like Papers, Please - you won't like this. I didn't understand why a detective mystery game was made by the same person until I played it. It's not really about solving a mystery. They show you what happened in cutscenes, and then you have to try to figure out which of the 60+ people the victim is. It's mildly interesting, but I wish it was a mystery about the story (because the story actually looked semi interesting.)

The game puts you in boots of a dedective (investigator from insurance company), and besides one unnatural gadget it feels like solving a Victorian era mystery. ...and it's great, at first. Most of the early riddles are mostly solved buy your deduction skills, and putting together pieces of the previously seen stories. Unfortunately the closer the end the grindier the game gets. It might be just my experience, but towards the end I was merely blind guessing a lot of the fates, and no amount of snooping around help me to find the clues (I swep the whole bloody ship twice!). Still it was a very enjoyable game, and it would be straight 5 if not that little hiccup at the end :)

I tried to like this game but very quickly was turned off by its mechanics. It's a game chopped into scenes you have to revisit a million times. I couldn't even make it to the end of the "tutorial". Really had zero patience for neither story nor mechanics. Was totally not my cup of tea despite being a huge popular favourite. :-(

Ich musste schon nach 9 geklärten Schicksalen aufgeben, kam leider nicht mehr weiter. Ich bin ein Adventure-Veteran und sicher nicht unbeleckt bei solchen Spielen. Bis dahin hat es mir durchaus Spaß gemacht, von einer Leiche zur nächsten geführt zu werden und den Augenblick ihres Todes mitzuerleben, um dann aus dem Gehörten und Gesehenen Schlussfolgerungen zu ziehen. Aber das reicht leider nicht - die Informationen sind viel zu spärlich, man muss sich unheimlich viel merken (das Markierungssystem des Spiels finde ich überhaupt nicht hilfreich) und ist dann auch noch aufs Raten angewiesen, was das Spiel sogar zugibt. Wenn man wenigstens nicht mindestens drei Schicksale auf einmal richtig haben müsste, um bestätigt zu kriegen, dass man recht hat - aber so ist es, und das macht das Spiel letzten Endes zu schwer. Sicher, wenn man unheimlich viel Freizeit hat und völlig in dieses Spiel vernarrt ist, hat man seine Freude dran. Aber die Hürden sind einfach zu hoch, das Spiel zu anspruchsvoll. Und ich finde, das sollte man den Käufern vorher sagen. Ich glaube nämlich nicht, dass der Großteil der Spieler es bis zum Ende schafft.
