A GOOD game that could have been GREAT

The science-y aspects of the story are OK (they really don't make much of the game though), the puzzles are challenging enough to be fun yet not insanely hard, the graphics - well they really bring back warm Lucasarts memories... But what I liked most was how the characters were written and voice-acted (except for Ed, whose constantly trembling tone really got on my nerves). Unfortunately the game probably don't make enough use of their diversity nor last long enough to really get to know them (I especially felt cheated with Anna: the flashback dream sequences were brilliant as her backstory, but the character itself is totally transparent most of the game). That said, I absolutely *loved* playing this game and immensely enjoyed the story. A real use of all characters personalities and backstories and it would have been 5 stars! ^^

Great but short old-school adventure, with some minor flaws

This game is great overall, even if a bit short, i guess its better quality over quantity anyway so im not lowering the score cause that. Its an old school point-click adventure with a very solid and interesting story, cool characters, nice dialogues, an interesting interactive and inventory system (still a bit cluncky in some occasions), and well... overall i recommend any gamer interested in those adventures to pick this one, anyway i feel to point out also that the game has some flaws. The most annoying aspect is about the music, that in most occasions is 20 seconds (terrible) sample looping endlessly which cant be turned off if not switching off all the game sounds. Sometimes spending 15 mins in a room trying to figure out what to do with this music loop even out of sync at times gets me mad and made me switch off the sound. Another aspect which can be personal taste, is the fact imo the game is a bit too much hardcore at times in therm of illogic things to do or try/error situations. Overall compared to the real old adventures average difficulty, like Lucas ones, this one is a bit more accessible luckily, but in some occasions its defo frustrating. In most occasions it will be logic how to go on, it will be cool and satisfying, puzzles and situations in general are rewarding without asking too much time and it will rarely be riquired the tedious try-to-combine-random-things-hoping-it works that was a bit too much standard especially back in the 80's and early 90's... Still there are 3-4 situations where its really hard if not impossible to figure out how to go on in this game and i think this aspect should have been lifted a bit, as beside it was quite normal back in the days to be stuck in those kind of games, still i feel actually this aspect of harcore try/error-pixelhunt is no more fun/satisfying as gameplay. Sometimes it happens to figure out that you are trying to do the right thing but the game doesnt allow you yet cause you need first to talk to npc A or show item X to person Y to make the action you wanna do possible. Anyway its my personal opinion, this game as old/school point and click adventure is really cool inlcuding the plus and minus that were present usually in those kind of games, just i personally think that it could be more modern and appealing to have a game like this not easier to complete in therm of puzzles, but more logic with less try/error hard steps, as its very satisfying to go on in those kind of games on alone, but the need to read a guide to pass some specific points strip away a bit of fun.

One of the best adventure games to date!

Don't let the fact that 'Resonance' is an indie title fool you -- it is unequivocally one of the best point-and-click adventure games to date. Its success lies in Vince Twelve's solid and grounded storytelling, implementation of a unique inventory system, and designs of variety of puzzles. Not even bigger studios back in the 1990s could have pulled this off easily. 'Resonance' is a science fiction thriller, but the pseudo science that forms the backbone of the story is grounded enough to help the players suspend their disbelief. The mystery is engaging and thrilling, culminating in an ending that is of the player's choosing. This adds replayability to 'Resonance' which cannot be said for many adventure games. Playing as four different characters, you get to approach the game's problems and see the narrative from different perspectives. For Vince Twelve to pull this off in 'Resonance' as well as Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman did in 'Day of the Tentacle', and Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick in 'Thimbleweed Park', is testament to his attention to writing and design. Where the story lacks in character development, it excels in the pacing and revelation of surprises. The inventory system of 'Resonance' is also noteworthy. There are three inventories: long-term memory (LTM), short-term memory (STM), and object. LTM inventory is where your experiences and some newly learned knowledge are stored; STM inventory is where you can store objects and locations that you may want to discuss later during the same chapter of the game; and object inventory is where to hold your possessions. LTM and STM inventories can be used during conversations to advance the game. It took me a while to get used to them, and they can be cumbersome. In the case STM inventory, I felt it is a bit under utilized, too. However, once I got the hang of them, I feel they add a layer of challenge to the game. Puzzle difficulty ranges from easy to difficult. Some of the more difficult ones involve LTM and STM inventories, as well as using multiple playable characters effectively. There is a good variety of puzzles (unlike the overuse of sliding tile puzzles and mazes in some adventure games I played recently) that you are unlikely to get bored. 'Resonance' is a game that is so fun and good that I cannot stop thinking about it after I finished it. I started replaying it soon after, and I see the game and story in a different light now that I know all the twists, surprises and narrative details. I simply cannot recommend this game enough.

A stunning adventure game. No really.

This game really blew me away. It is nothing short of amazing. It's the first game of Wadjet Eye Games/XII Games I've played, and I did so on a whim after seeing it here on gog.com and reading some stellar user reviews. I decided why not, as I hadn't played a good adventure game in a long time. I am really really really glad I chose to give it a chance. It is one of the best games I've played in 2012 for sure. The story, the way you interact with 4 people at the same time, and see their stories collide, and even the voice acting. Everything was perfect. Even the length of the game. It was long, but didn't overstay its welcome, so to speak. I'd even go so far as to say it's one of the best adventure games I've ever played (and I've played a lot of them over the years going back to the old Sierra Games glory days).

Awesome game!

This is a wonderful game! I'm not what we may call a hard core adventure gamer and yet I've been addicted to this game from the start, the characters are lovable and the puzzles blend very well with the story. If you love adventure games go for it, and if you don't give it a try, it may makes you like them.
