A Hero's Tale!

Choose between Magic User, Thief or Fighter - or mix your skills to be a little bit of everything! This game is great because depending on the "Class" you pick - many of the puzzles are solved differently (which is why I wouldn't recommend mixing your class skills) - because this creates some replayability in how you go about solving things! This would be five stars, if it wasn't for the second game... More on that. Charming, funny, and great - this series is wonderful. I'd say the greatest bane to the series is the second one - because wandering through the city - you LITERALLY needed the map out of the city lay out to get to different areas - otherwise you will - without fail - be completely lost in the maze of the tunnels that make up the city (I am assuming this was done as a form of copy protection back then) - which made legitimate players (such as myself, who was an avid Sierra collector back in the day!) suffer the consequence. As a result, the second Quest for Glory is probably the one I play the least because of that. Even with the map it was pretty easy to still get turned around and since all the tunnels look the same, it was often, at that point, easier to restore to before you went in the tunnel and start all over.

Crashing problem in quest for glory 5

Quest for Glory 5 seems to crash every time I try to select my class of hero! Can this be fixed?

A great series

This is a great series of games, though it's also very mixed. It's an adventure game with combat elements and a fair amount of humor, where you can take your character from the first game and import it into any later game (so you can do 1 to 2 to 3, etc., but it also allows you to go 1 to 5, or 2 to 5. You can import from any lower number to any higher one). Most of the music is pretty great too. The first Quest for Glory is all text-based. The text-based version I'd say is better, but somewhat counter-intuitive if you've never done it before. The VGA version is easier for new players (and the easiest class is a figher where you add points to magic and other skills you don't have). The second game is also text based. There's a VGA version of #2 that you can find free online from AGD interactive studios. It's very well done, free, and fully compatible. It's also much more polished than the VGA versions of 1 or 3. Quest for Glory 3 was the first VGA version originally produced, and so it's the clunkiest. There's some nice elements, but if you can't get through it there's no harm in exporting your character directly from QFG2 to QFG4. QFG4 is great. It was pretty buggy originally, but GoG includes all the patches which helps I think it includes a fan patch as well, though there may be more online. Save often. QFG5 is a completely different style of game. It's also the only one that's 3d. In many ways it's my favorite, but it's also a very different feel from 1-4. If you buy the series and can't get into the earlier ones I'd try going directly to 5 and seeing if that's more your style. All in all this is a great deal for not very much money.

nostalgia

takes me right back to 1995. I played these games non-stop back then, and I still enjoy dusting them off and reliving my childhood. Thanks, GOG.com!

Great Series of Games

These games were always favorites of mine growing up. I always liked the option of playing 3 different characters and how each players abilities change how you have to complete the game. The 3rd and 4th were the best in my opinion. The revised one was good, but the second one is hard to play having to type in your commands and all (never liked that). The thing I probably like best about them is the nonstop sarcasm and (intentionally) corny punchlines throughout the game, especially when it seems to be at the wrong moment (when you die they post a cheesy joke about it...hilarious). If you like a good action/puzzle game (and a good laugh) give these games a try!
