One of the greats!
This was my 1st shooter after Doom way, way back then. Lol. Loved the soundtrack on that special disc Walmart sold which was shareware demo with the full game on the disc if you got the code. Also, yes it had Nine Inch Nails soundtrack. I can remember modding this to add the voices of Beavis and Butthead commenting on your actions.

Das waren noch Zeiten...
Ich kann mich nur noch wage daran erinnern an das Jahr 1996/ 1997, da zockte ich Quake bis zum Abwinken. Und nun endlich wieder!! GOG sei Dank !! Da ist wieder dieses Feeling, diese fiesen Monster und Untoten zu eliminieren. Die oder Ich - das war hier die Frage. Hier gibt es so ein paar Meinungen, das der "OST" (originale Soundtrack) fehlt, nun ja, man kann darüber meckern, aber das ist schon auf einem hohen Niveau. Die Spielmechaniken funktionieren alle und das ist doch die Hauptsache. Spiele das Spiel auf z. B. einer Auflösung von 640x480 - versuche das mal mit einem Neueren Game...?! Ganz im Ernst, ich finde dieses Altbackene einfach ausgezeichnet. Und auch die übrigen Sounds funzen alle, vor allem der verschiedenen Waffenarten. Aber auch Türen und Verstecke und Sonstiges, was ich hier vergessen habe zu erwähnen. Habe "Quake" irgendwo anders, außer hier auf GOG, noch nicht gesehen und bedanke mich schon mal dafür, das Ihr das möglich gemacht habt!!

Inspirational game of all of time
Quake 1 is simple, fast and it's fun. With wellcrafted level design, tons of well hidden secrets and satisfying weapons to rip apart your enemies. It has great visuals for a game that came out in 1996, and although the soundtrack is a big departure from the heavy metal that we got with Doom, it's still very good on it's own and it amplifies the atmosphere. If you played Doom 1 and 2, you know what to expect. It's pretty much a Spiritual sucessor to Doom in many ways. I do have some gripes with a few enemies and guns. Starting with the shotguns, being kind of on the weaker side. Enemies like the Spawn and the "Spider woman" that are just immensely annoying to deal with and will lead to a lot of cheap deaths especially on higher dificulties. Also, the final boss entrance bugged out for me and had to noclip to it to face the boss. Expansions are more of the same in a good way. You get new enemies, Level aesthetics and a climatic final boss.

Good old quake, bad sourceport
Yeah it's Quake alright. The Kex engine port on the hand is absolutely atrocious: eye bleeding bethesda achievements, horrible config controls (cant even reset controls), minimal mod compatibility. It's not as bad as Doom64 port, but i will still stay away from Bethesda crap from now on. Sourceports like Ironwail are a remedy to most of the issues though.

The heck with the music, put your own CD in and listen if you must, and if you can't afford a CD, WTF are ya doin' here???. This version takes Quake I to an entirely new level! Another universe!!! An alternate reality!!! Seriously though; It also honors the OG gamer and OG Devs. Good job, Devs!!!
