It’s an oppressively brown shooter, but it still carries the speedy, lightweight combat that makes older FPS games still pop today. The changes that Nightdive brought in for the remaster make it even more enjoyable and accessible.

Brilliant referesher.
I''ve been playing Quake 2 on and off since '98. I played most ports and mods. They are always nice when they referesh the graphics. I thought Quake2XP is top dog, but this seems equally good.

A fun tech demo, but that's about it
So I took about 45 minutes or so to enjoy the techo demo that this essentially is. It's definitely impressive technology and will make even beefy GPUs break a sweat (I played using an RTX 2080 and got >90 fps in 1080p). It's pretty alright but it's more exciting in theory than in practice. If you have the hardware, I encourage giving it a go!
