Rough, challenging, and monotonous
So sue me. PR2, to me, does not fit the bill for "good old game." Many of you will probably disagree with me, but here are my issues with Port Royale 2: * The scenarios are too long * Gaining rank takes forever because * Trading to make profit takes forever, even though * The towns' demand for materials is predictable, but yet * It's like grinding in an RPG, considering how little money you make toward your next goal * I found that a handful of scenarios couldn't be completed because the game was buggy and did not recognize when certain tasks had been accomplished * Battle was boring, simply put. * Town building is sooo last-minute tacked-on. Not nearly as in-depth as games like Tropico I think this game's problem is that it just pulled in too many directions, and failed in each of them. Then again, for $10, it wouldn't kill you to try it.

Phew!
Back in my youth, and I'm still quite young, I used to play the crap out of this game, like seriously! I was a youngling who didn't even know the basics of the game, in fact I didn't even know this game belonged to the trading genre. All I knew was Spanish ships had the greatest firepower of all factions, and I made fleets upon fleets of their most powerful inventions, until at long last, God told me to lose this game at a flood. It's good to see it here, and this time, I'll play it as it is meant to be! A shame there are no female-pirates options. I'm a fan of games that let me choose, at the very least, whether I have a beard or not.

Not a sequel
If anything, this game is more like a sequel or sidegame to Patrician III. It is most definely NOT a sequel to Port Royale, even though the basic premise is the same. From memory, in Port Royale you had the same kind of objectives, but it was much much much easier to turn rogue and run around sinking ship 'Pirates' style, then it was to fiddle around trading. Still a good game, if you like Patrician, but not the game you're looking for if you like being a pirate, as it only allows you to control 1 ship in battle at a time, no matter how many in your fleet, nor how many attackers there are.
