Pirates! Gold Plus

the original sid meier's pirates 1987/89 is still my favorite game. i still own the original box, map, disks, manual. ive gone to explore other versions of the original, NES, Sega, japanese PC-88 & PC-98, Amiga, and of them all i believe the IBM-PC Dos (and dos booter) versions are the best example of this work of art. the difficulty levels are fairly balanced, simple progression, simulated high seas adventure, economics and politics. this game taught me more about the Caribbean geography, locations, history and intrigue than any textbook or school class room; even the History channel documentaries are pale comparisons of the level of detail. with the timeframe a back drop of classical music parades through your PC speaker (or Tandy) as you explore towns and navigate dangerous waters. hoping to your last breath that someone more experienced and powerful than you does not take everything you own, especially your life. your main goal is to save your family and aquire massive fame and wealth. nothing is more challenging than life itself.

This is a great game, but stay clear of the Gold edition being sold here. Full of bugs and controlling the ship in the open sea battles is next to impossible (unless you want to do it with a mouse, which is not very comfortable nonetheless). The DOS version is acceptable, but the very best among the classic versions are the Amiga and Sega Genesis ones. I bought the pack being sold here for a clean conscience (and the great manuals), but ended up playing the terrific Sega Genesis edition through an emulator.

An iconic game, one of the best games ever produced. The version might not be the best one (I played it on Amiga when it came out back in the days) but still, for a serious collector, every connaisseur it is a duty to have this game. In 2018 the game mechanics and graphics are outdated or at least old-fashioned, many android games are more advanced so this is a matter of honor to add this to your collection. I could say this about quite some games, but hey, it's under 2€, so why think twice. Every smoker pays more on cigarettes each day.

it is IMPOSSIBLE to win at fencing, End of. Fencing is the only key to success in this game, to capture ships and booty. You never at win fencing. You never win the game. This is even when choosing the "superiour fencing skills" trait AND on the EASIEST difficulty. So then, the game overall? It's end of! So grab your parrot, grab your eyepatch and stick 'em up your arse.

f***in' love this game.....spend hours and hours and hours in playing this game since i was a lil kid...introduced by my big brother....the original disc-set already became a collectors item, unfortunately we don't have it anymore.... it's a nice add-on for my 2 lil i4770/i4790 4gb gpu 8/16gb ram win10 pc's; on them i play older pc (90's - early2010's)/dos/amiga-emu games...still looking out for older cheap games on sale...
