This is the sort of game that stays in your mind. It might not be the fanciest, you have to mod it to get widescreen and I probably overlook any flaws because I know no better. But it's been 20 years and I'm still playing this game. 3D graphics ruined some of the early 2000's games but this sort of pixel style will always look good, mostly because you can't zoom in but viewed from affar it just has a lovely quality. Don't just stop here though, Sierra made a few of these and they each have their quirks and art style. But for me I fancy it will be another 20 years in the future and I will still be playing Pharoah. Thanks to GOG and my old CD copy, no one will ever tear this thing out of my clutches.

5/5. Tip for new players: decrease scroll speed and game speed. Change monitor settings to show real 4:3 or something, now force fullscreen which only ef ups visuals.
This game is an excellent city building game, sort of like Sim City, but in Egyptian style and way more immersive. You really feel connected to the people of your village you create. The goal depends on the mission scenario you are in, but mostly, building a city from scratch, and creating a empire that reigns supreme.
This version comes with the expansion pack Cleopatra and other goodies too. The soundtrack is amazing, and the visuals still hold up in modern times. The game runs on modern machines, Windows 7 and 64 bit versions, the game does run "fast" in speed settings upon launch, but lowering it down fixes that in the options in-game.
You can even play in sand-box mode, where there are no missions and you just build your own city on a large map. This game will suck you in, and hours will pass on by.
What a classic! This is the game that made me love city building games and then find out that nothing lived up to how good this game was. One of those games that just give you a ton of memories even after all these years.
