PHANTASMAGORIAAAAA!!!
The beginning is a tad slow and the ending is weird to say the least but a large majority of this game should have you sitting on the edge of your computer chair thinking, "WTF" :D

An enjoyable game
The graphics/actor animation is good, though some of the movie clips were rather grainy. The basic theme was good, though the treatment a bit corny and stereotypic at times (eg, the characterisation of Syrus as being a retarded country bumpkin). Generally the order in which solves problems and collects inventory items is not an issue, till one gets into the final chapter: then watch out. it gets very frenetic. But one is given a chance to retry if one screws up. some inventory items stay there to the bitter end even though of no further use (eg, the hammer). But I enjoyed playing it and soloutions were reasonably straightforward. The Aussies must be very prudish to have banned this game simply because of the "rape" scene (But I'm unsure quite when that occured -- I assume today, even the Aussies wouldn't ban it with what we have today in the movies)

Strong Start. Trips up in the End.
I had looked forward to playing Phantasmagoria for a long time. I remember when I first saw the game in the nineties. At a whopping seven discs, I thought this is going to be one long mystery/horror game. I hope it's a good one. Unfortunately, I didn't have a computer powerful enough to run it and by the time I did, technology had become too advanced to run the games. Thanks to GOG, I finally got the chance to to play this game. Regrettably the game was a mild disappointment which was unfortunate as the game started with an immense amount of potential. What started as a very interesting mystery tale devolved into a pointless slasher flick by the end of the game. The puzzles are minimal and rather simplistic. This was truly more a movie than a game as moving the plot along consisted of clicking on the necessary hot spots or just walking into a location. I would have been OK with that as the mystery slowly unfolded as you accomplished each task for the day. However, towards the end it is possible to complete one chapter without finding out anything about the back story of the mystery. I had to beat the game, then find out what I missed, and then go back and replay the chapter to get the whole story. The acting is fairly well done, but I found the violence to be quite over the top and brutal. The last few chapters felt like padding just to add something to the game, hence the excessive violence. Had a little more emphasis been placed on the story as opposed to the gore factor, this would have been a very good game. As it stands I give it a B-.

Brilliant Game!
Classic game. Brilliant story-line, very creepy and will keep you coming back for more! The only negative side to this game is that it is very easy, I managed to complete it in the space of a weekend. Also there is a hint-master on it so it can potentially make the game even easier if you decide to use it. Don't let this put you off though because despite this it is a very enjoyable game and very re-playable.

Best ever
This was the first pc game I ever played and I never thought I'd see it again! I barely knew how to hold a mouse at the time. I found this game to be incomparable.
