+ awesome graphics + interesting plot + intense gameplay - a bit short - puzzles somewhat repetitive - outrunning monsters make some parts trivial Definitely worth the money. Play it drunk with friends.

The new horror standard
'Outlast' is a terrifying experience, moreso than any other game I've played. It has some moments so intense that it's barely playable without having someone in the seat beside you, no matter the time of day...or night. Because if playing it alone is a kinda feat in itself, playing it alone at night is something not many will pull off. I'm not making this stuff up, let's be clear about this, this game IS the king of scary. Going back to 'Amnesia' after playing it is more or less a piece of cake. 'Outlast' has a number of things it does really well: -good sound effects (basically you're gonna be in a constant panic mode because of them) -very good graphics, which really help the overall immersion -many dark areas (oh yeah!) -some moments that will make you hit Esc, take off your headphones and take a few steps around the room to calm down and stop the shaking in your fingers And it has a few things that could be better: -very few types of enemies. They are scary alright, but after a while it gets repetitive running into the same kind of nutheads. -it's a bit too easy. Batteries for the camera are scattered all over the place and you'll never feel like running out of your precious night vision is ever going to be a problem. -the supernatural element is actually less scary than everything else In conclusion, I absolutely recommend this game to anyone looking for an evening of thrills and shivers.

Good horror
I played some hours yet and the game is a good horror survival, because I do not need any weapons. The only equipement is a camcorder, which is a good thing to have in dark rooms. Sometimes it is hard to survive, because the rooms are often dark and you have some corridors to choose. There are some scary moments and my heart beat goes up sometimes when I have to run, run, run :) I give four stars because I miss more complex key / switch puzzles, but the settings, sounds and visuals are good. I detected problems with the minimum CPU requirement, I got a CPU overheat. I have ordered better hardware to play more of it ...

Found footage....
I've came to know and watch almost every good foundfootage movie out there just because that there isn't a better kind of horror movie than the one that keeps you inside the skin of the protagonist the hole ride. This games is a FoundFootage geek's playable wet dream. Tense, dark and nerveracking, just like it should be. Its an horror masterpiece breakthrough kind of video game. It is not groundbreaking in terms of technology but delivers a never seen before kind of playable first person survival horror game untill you jump,sweat and scream the hell out.

More frustrating than scary.
I never got the hype for this. The gameplay is far more frustrating than scary...or fun. Maybe it speaks to my personal nature, that if I'm in a life or death situation and there's no way out, I'd prefer to die fighting rather than die sniveling in a locker no matter how scared I may be. In Clock Tower 3, you can set traps. In Haunting Ground you can hide and sick your dog on enemies in the hopes of escaping. This game has nothing like that. You hide...and you wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, then while you're waiting, you wonder how waiting amounts to real gameplay. Then you get really PISSED OFF that the psycho caught you because you made a single footstep within a hundred yards of him and the clunky controls get you killed. I do not have the patience to hang around waiting for this game to get good. It's no wonder I bought this game in 2013, got bored and angry with it, quit playing halfway through, then tried it again today, and had the exact same feelings about. It's also why when this game came out, people were hailing it as the new classic and the future of horror. Now nobody even talks about it anymore. I didn't even know (or care) there was a sequel out until I stumbled accross it at Vintage Stock. It's crap, it's garbage, it's not scary, and it's not worth your time or money. Big skip on this.
